Hello all,

I will be visiting St. John and Virgin Gorda this January to get married and honeymoon. Any advice on great restaurants for dinner the wedding night? It's just the 2 of us, so no need to support a big group. Just and fun, romantic place for dinner.

Also, do I need to book inter-island ferry service prior to the trip?

Thanks for any help...

Congratulations on your wedding and choice of locations.

Our favorite restaurant for a special dinner is Chateau Bordeaux. You would definitely want an early reservation because, good as the food is, the view is spectacular, If you were to get there after dark, you might be puzzled as to why it's recomended so highly. There aren't many places like it in the world.

There is a place on some online ferry schedule that suggests reserving, but I think that every time someone has actually called to do that, they've been told it's not necessary.

My choice for a restaurant would be Zozo's at sunset for some drinks at the upstairs bar and than a nice dinner. The fried calimari and osso bucco is outstanding. You definitely won't be disappointed. Make sure you sit by the rail.

As Lex said Chateau Bordeaux is about as much of a romantic place with great food as you'll find. The view is unsurpassed. They do 2 seatings a night, something like 5:30 and 7:30. I strongly advise the earlier seating, request a window seat when you reserve. Now the bad news: I've read that they were supposed to re-open Oct. 23rd, but they aren't answering the phone..............regardless, you're pickin' a great spot to start your lives together. Good luck!

Hey, Lex. Still lurk on Anthony's but don't like it as much as before. Just to let you know, my wife's big ^0 b-day is today and I booked a spur of the moment trip to STJ. We'll be leaving next Tuesday a.m. for 2 weeks. The Carriacou thing was too much hassle travel wise.Later

My wife and I spent my 60th on STJ. Turned out to be a great strategy---focused on how great life is rather than the harsh reality of turning 60. I sort of drifted away from Anthony's when the change came. Mostly I've been haunting Kauai forums. We were there in September and I haven't wanted to let go. The Grenadines sure do attract me, but they are complicated to get to. Which, I guess, it's a big part of why they remain as they are. Maybe one year. Carriacou sounds so good and Mayreau sounds like heaven.

Bouldergal, I apologize for this brief hijacking of your thread.

Thanks everyone... I think Chateau Bordeaux was a place I ate last time. It's the view over the cliff, right?

The balcony looks interesting as well...

Appreciate the advice. You want it to be perfect, you know?

Check out whether Chateau Bordeaux is still open. Word going around is that it is closed. It is one of my favorite restaurants and I love the view. Someone a while ago suggested the private eating area at Caneel that is supposed to be rather romantic. Some people like Asolare (fusion food). Not one of my favorites. Someone else suggested that if you are renting a villa that you have a caterer come in (I like this idea). There are other choices and some other people can help you out. Researching the topic is not a bad idea but you know that everyone has his/her favorite. An early dinner at Stone Terrace on the porch is another option. Whatever you choose you will have a wonderful time on STJ and Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

Bouldergal,
One of our favorite restaurants is Rhumb Lines. Funky atmosphere and great food. I guess it could be romantic, after all, I think it's where Kenny and Renee had their rehearsal dinner, or something like that. I do know my husband got up from our table three times during dinner to take photos of young couples on the bar swing...mia
