So after dragging Lizard Boy out of the bushes and the kids had partaken of the continental Breakfast, we pack up the car and head over to the Tram. Hey, we never got a chance to ride to the top last time we were in St. Thomas and after all, I have drink coupons!!! Have I mentioned I'm kind of a wimp when it comes to heights and it was windy that day? Ya well, I just kept thinking about my drink awaiting me at the top and tried not to look straight down. I survived the ride and we walked around a little. Took pics and then wandered around the little shops. By this time, Graduate Girl had scoped the knockoff designer bags and proceeded to hound and badger us about letting her get one. I told her to wait as I knew that they had tons of them on the tables under the tents downtown and she would have a far better selection. She happily agreed. It was past time for that drink so we grabbed a table and slurped down some libations. Took the tram back down and decided that since we were planning on taking the 3:00 Red Hook ferry, and we thought Lizard Boy would enjoy it, we had plenty of time to go and check out Coral World.
As soon as we got there, Lizard Boy started digging in some rocks on a path trying to catch a brown baby snake he caught a glimpse of. Don't know if it was poisonous(?) or not but I told him to knock it off. As we ventured into the heart of Coral World, I heard a shout of "Iguana!" Saw the eyes bulge and grow misty with mischevious intent as he took off toward about 4 giant Iguanas. He just had to touch them. He wanted to hold them, I swear if he'd of had a rope, he'd of lassoed (sp?) one and rode him out of there! Next we fed the rays. Graduate Girl and I were getting hungry so we got some frys at the food stand then just walked around viewing the rest of the exibits. I found it quite similar to the Maui Aquarium. Short, sweet and worth doing once. Toward the end of our time there, the wind really picked up and it started raining buckets so we decided to head over to the ferry.
We dropped the car off at the Budget on property at the Sapphire Beach Resort for an extra $20. Took a taxi to RH, got our tickets and sat in the waiting area with a bunch of high school girls that had just gotten out of school and were on their way home. I thought their uniforms were cute and some of them were clever with their accessorizing. One girl had a project with her that Lizard Boy was fascinated with. A miniture scale home complete with landscaping. She did a really nice job with it. Ok, so it's time to board the ferry and it's still raining, windy, and the sea looks a little rough with swells and some white capping. I didn't think anything of it before borading but as we got rolling and I mean that literally, we were basically doing wheelies over the waves. There was white knuckleing going on by some (myself included), WooWeees and YeeHaaaaws going on by others (that would be Honey and Lizard Boy whom were among most of the boys having a grand time while the women wore pasted smiles while secretly praying to God that they would live!) My heart stood still as we approached the island of my desire for the last 4 years and I couldn't help getting misty (after kissing the ground) as we stepped off the ferry and into paradise revisited. I was in a euphoria of bliss!
Dave at Cimmaron Property Management was there awaiting us with our name on a sign. After the introductions, he drove us and our crap to L&L Jeep Rental where we had a Liberty reserved for the week. Kurt gently chastised me as I was suppose to call him before getting on the ferry so he could meet us at the dock. Ooops, I was feeling island time, what can I say? We got new dark green jeep with 5000 miles on it and were on our way following Dave to our home for the next week on Gifft Hill. He stopped to point our a few markets and such on the way and we proceeded UP the island. The roads were wet and we kept going up and up and steep and "Oh My God TURN!!!" "LEFT HONEY!" Tires were slipping and so Honey locked in the 4WD and after some initial white knuckleling, we made it to what it called Villa Capiz. More to come...
