I've been wanting to go to St. John for a long time, and my buddy finally agreed to come with me. Since he kind of likes to camp, I thought we could try that. I'm concerned that if there are a lot of insects... it may spoil the time and I won't be able to talk him into a trip like this again.

I heard that Gallows Point is a nice place to stay, but it (as well as the other accomodations I've looked into) is very expensive...

If anyone has advice about this, I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks!

Hello Laura,

Lots of folks camp. http://www.mahobay.com or http://www.cinnamonbay.com If your buddy is not a camping type of person you might consider staying at an inn/b&b - www.serendipstjohn.com and see if that is more in your guys' budget. If you are camping in a tent rather then one of the tent/cabin type places then yes you can expect mosquitos. No need to worry about any other insects but mosquitos can be pretty annoying. You can use off or deet to keep them away.
