My Husband and I will be vacationing in St. John the first week in July. We understand that renting a car is suggested? Is this the best way to get around? We are staying at the Westin and I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for the rooms and what area of the hotel to stay in?

Hi, my husband and I have vacationed before on St. John and are going back at the end of this month. We rented a private villa before and found a jeep to be necessary since the villa was not on a paved road. However, I highly recommend it even though you are staying at the Westin, at least for a couple of days. A jeep will allow you to get to more remote spots on St. John, and experience some hiking and/or almost private beaches. We went out every day and did a bit of exploring. Hope this helps - enjoy your vacation!

Robin,

If we are going to St. John on a day trip, is there a jeep rental place near where the ferry docks? I would love to rent a jeep and explore the island. Also, is there an age requirement for renting a jeep? I am only 21, and my new wife is 22. Will we have trouble renting a car?

Denzil Cline jeep rentals is who we used before, and he is right across from the ferry dock. I don't think there is an age limitation in the islands like there is here...........although I unfortunately don't have to deal with this issue as I am the ripe old age of 38!!!!! A lot of the jeep rentals don't even require a credit card.........they just want to see a valid drivers license. Good luck!

Julia, it took us about 10 minutes to get our jeep. I think the rates run about $50 or $60 a day........I am not sure thay do half day rentals. Hope that helps!

We were told our 20 year old was not authorized to drive on STJ because you have to be 25. They do often waive that if you are a married couple and both under 25. So you may be in luck.
