We are on our way to St. Croix in 7 days!!! Can't wait. Live in the Great Mid-West, sand, sun, and salt water are not readily available here. We are traveling with another couple and we are not heavy party goers, but would like to know what are the must do's for our trip. We will be there a week, and need the laid back approach....... We love to snorkel and soak up the sun, but would like to see some of the island as well.

We are staying at Mill Harbour, any comments?

What about Buck Island, how do we get there and cost?

Other must do's?

Thanks for the expert advice,
Andrea

Buck Island is a must. We use Big Beard and i think it's around 35-40. The easiest way to see the island is to take a tour with one of the taxi's. That will hit the high spots, the rum factory, whim museum, the botanical gardens and the two towns. They might even take you to see the beer-drinking pigs. It takes 3 hours or so. I don't know the cost. Someone at Mill Harbor can point you in the right direction.

Restaurants? Too many to mention. Go out to the North Shore -- Off the Wall, the Cane Bay Beach Bar.

Your first stop should be the Tourist Center in the Scale House in Christiansted. They have great maps and all kinds of info. You'll have a great time.

Hello. Ditto on the above. Buck Island is beautiful, and the trip over is a great way to see another view of the island. Watch for dolphin in the water. The Rum Factory was fun. A great way to get a view of islanders at work, and to network with other vacationers. Try snorkeling off Fredrickstead Pier, to see the seahorses. Don't forget to watch the sunset while there. Also try the crab races (Monday's, 6:00pm, Christiansted Brew Pub), they are alot of fun, and give away great prizes that you may be able to use during the rest of your stay. Divi's Casino is fun, if you like that kind of entertainment. Look in the St. Croix this Week magazine you will find on island, and check out the evening entertainment schedule. Lots of fun things to do. We had a great time on St. Croix, and hope you do too.

Hello,

Be sure to visit the forts and other historical buildings in Christiansted. For a really stunning view of the town take the little ferry over to Protestant Cay; maybe spend a hour at the beach or just go over and walk around and come back. Great view. There is a beach bbq I think on Tuesdays or maybe Wednesdays at the Hotel on the Cay at Protestant Cay thats nice to go to.

Also visit the fort in Frederiksted.

Whim Plantation is neat. If the Landmark Society has any tours you might look into doing one of them. The Botanical Gardens are nice. Rum Factory is fun and interesting. Take an island tour or if you have a rental car just drive along the scenic routes. Buck Island for a day trip.

Have a great time. (Do a search on this board, there 4 or 5 recent great St. Croix trip reports with lots of restaurant tips and great suggestions)

I agree with all the advice you have been given. Buck Island is a must - to make arrangements you just call or walk in to Big Beards ( http://www.bigbeards.com/) or Mile Mark ( http://www.milemarkwatersports.com/) on the waterfront in Christiansted.

If you want to spend one day taking in all the important sites with a really knowledgeable guide I heartily recommend Sweeny of Sweeny's Safari Tours ( http://gotostcroix.com/safaritours/). His tours hit nearly all of the great spots mentioned here and he is a terrific guy.

Other things you might want to do (or not): Spend a day at Cane Bay Beach - you can sun, swim, frolic, snorkel, scuba, or hang at one of the two great beach bars there - Cane Bay Beach Bar and Off the Wall - it's absolutely wonderful. Sundays are great because of the terrific ala carte brunch at the Cane Bay Beach Bar. Spend part of a day in Christiansted shopping, sightseeing and dining in the fabulous restaurants there.

As others have mentioned the crab races are a hoot, with great prizes (that I haven't won in ages 🙁 ) and the beach barbecue at Hotel on the Cay in Christiansted (Tuesdays) affords you great entertainment and a cool view of town. I personally would eat in town however, and go over later for the show. This is because there are much better places to eat for a better value in town than on the Cay.

Thanks everyone for the info. We are 4 days and counting, CAN'T WAIT to get there!

I'll be sure to put in a report about what we did and how things went. Praying for lots of sun, sand, and salt water!
