Not trying to offend anyone here, but curious if there is a place (beach) wife and I can go, and not offend anyone if she decides to go topless.
Legally there aren't any clothing optional beaches anywhere in the USVI. I have a feeling, though there are places that don't MIND it. There are a few here on St Thomas. I have no idea about STX though. Usually check out the beach and go AWAY from where the majority of people are and do what ya want. The beach I work on has a spot like that...and there are a few "local knowledge" beaches on STT. I can ask my friend who lived on STX for 10 years if he knows of any and report back if no one else answers you.
IF you get caught, it could mean a $$ fine, though. Or pictures from the cops ;)...larcenous bunch. Where are you planning on staying?
For topless or nude beaches on STX, go to the very east end near Point Udall. There is a trail you can hike down to the south shore to Isaac's Bay and Jack's Bay.
There are also a number of beaches all over the island where nobody ever goes and you aren't likely to be disturbed or considered offensive to others. Much of the south shore of the island is unpopulated.
It's the US and not permitted. Try going to another island other than they USVI or even Mexico.
STX Realtor is correct—people do go topless and even nude(!) at Jack's and Isaac's Bay. Its such a remote spot, I cannot imagine that you would get into any kind of trouble there!
It is illegal - period! It is also disrespectful and offensive to the people who live on these islands - if you do research on the islands and the cultures it always states that even strolling around in a bathing suit anywhere other than the beach is very inappropriate here. If it is that important to you to sunbathe nude you should really look into the islands where it is acceptable...there are several and that way you wouldn't have to be looking over your shoulder all the time knowing you might get "caught". P.S. - This has come up before on this board, you might do a search and see what was said previously. I do hope you have a great trip ...
again, do not want to offend anyone, anything in the way of a private beach area? I was once told of an inland pond you could hike to from the beach which was very private... don't know if the place really exists though.
tejas,
In your initial post you state that you do not wish to offend anyone. spicy responded to your post and clearly indicated that it would be offensive to most West Indians for you and/or your wife to sunbathe topless on a USVI beach. You then repost again on the same topic with the same caveat, that you do not wish to offend anyone, but tejas, spicy clearly told you that topless sunbathing is offensive to West Indians, so much so that they have passed laws against topless sunbathing! If you wish to disrespect West Indians and break their laws you are certainly free to do so but there is no point in pretending that you do not wish to offend when you know what you're asking clearly does.
dntw,
maybe you need a dictionary, because i was asking about a private beach.... not public. and if private nudity is illegal, must be a lot of people taking a shower in their clothes...
anyway, i say let the question die, seems a touchy subject and not worth it..... i thought it was a simple question.
tejas,
Your initial post simply asked about a beach, no mention of private. After you were told that topless sunbathing is offensive to West Indians your second post asked about a "private beach area." Nowhere in your two posts asking about the location of topless sunbathing beaches in the USVI did you ask about "a private beach...not public." If you had, someone surely would have let you know that all USVI beaches are public beaches. The first time you asked it may have been a "simple question." After spicy responded you then asked a second time indicating a lack of respect for West Indian values.
dntw....learn to read.... i did mention private. but since it will make you happy this is my last post.
You know something... if topless sunbathing is so offensive, then why are there so many men going topless on the beaches? West Indians included.
I have been offended for many years by the knee jerk reaction regarding beach nudity in the usvi.
The "west Indian" people are not offended by nudity unless it is in town or busy beaches...
Yes..some older "church ladies"..who almost never go to the beach would not like to see naked or near naked bodies on any beach let alone their bathrooms.
However the younger people on all of the islands do not care what you wear. I see them "nude" on beaches all the time.
Get over it and stop repeating the tired answers. If you don't like beach nudity say so but do not blame the west indian morality.
I have been naked (nude) on many beaches in the Caribbean. Not one person has asked me to to get dressed or leave. ok ..so "I'm old and ugly".
I have been naked on Jumby, Soloman, Isaccs, Sprat Hall and even Shoys and many more. No one ever noticed or complained.
I guess what I am saying is that nudity is not offensive to most people. It's not a big deal. If you are careful to not flaunt yourself no "together person" will care.
Let's drop this subject...ok
