I'm having a hard time finding answers specific to St. Croix (but plenty about STJ and STT!) and I hope someone can help. We are arriving the first week of March and it's time to get these details ironed out!

1.) I'm aware there are no ferries off the island, but there was talk of perhaps starting again this year...does anyone have any more current information than that?

2.) What can we expect, budget-wise for a one week stay? We have a villa in Judith's Fancy, and plan to rent a car. There are 5 of us. Some of us are smokers, are cigarettes still relatively cheap? We are from MA and currently pay an average of $9 per pack, but can get them for as little as $7/pack in NH. Vehicle gas? We currently pay $3.40/gallon.

3.) Anyone heard of Skyline Rental for car rental? It was recommended by the villa owner.

4.) What would you say is the one "must-see" attraction/feature/location of the island?

5.) And finally - any tourist "traps" that we should definitely NOT get sucked into?

Please...I appreciate any feedback anyone can offer! Currently snowed in here in MA with a foot of snow and it's still coming down...but in 28 days we'll be in beautiful St. Croix! Thank you...

I will answer a couple questions that I can because I live on St. Thomas. Hopefully someone who lives on St. Croix will see your post and will be able to answer the rest.

1.) Cigarette prices - by the carton $25.00 or $25.99 at Kmart. Sorry, I don't know the price by the pack.

Gas prices - I can't give you an exact price because it is different on each island. St. Croix being the cheapest. I think it shouldn't be over $4.49 per gallon for regular, but don't hold me on that because I don't live on Stx.

Did you try posting on TripAdvisor, St. Croix? I would try that route also.

Enjoy your vacation!

No inter-island ferry servicing St Croix and none planned. Cigarettes around $2.50/$3 a pack. No-smoking laws are now in effect! Advice to check St Croix forum on TA is good.

Oops, my mistake.

1.) No ferry at all as STT Resident explains above.

2.) See my #1 answer in my above post. Please watch for all the no smoking signs as there are no smoking laws in effect.

You will probably find more information on TripAdvisor St. Croix.

Have fun!

I think more for gas, less for cigarettes, but I'm not sure.

3.) Anyone heard of Skyline Rental for car rental? It was recommended by the villa owner. Skyline is fine. Before we moved to STX we always used Judi of Croix and were very pleased with the service.

4.) What would you say is the one "must-see" attraction/feature/location of the island? You will want to take a trip to Buck Island. We liked Big Beards.

5.) And finally - any tourist "traps" that we should definitely NOT get sucked into? St. Croix is not the kind of island that has "tourist traps". Be aware of your surroundings, don't be in C'sted at 2 am dead drunk and don't leave valuables visible in your locked car.

Please...I appreciate any feedback anyone can offer! Currently snowed in here in MA with a foot of snow and it's still coming down...but in 28 days we'll be in beautiful St. Croix! Thank you...

Have a great trip.

I would add don't leave any valuables at all in automobiles, even if they are hidden, just to be sure. Nothing in the glove box and nothing in the trunk. Best be safe than sorry.

Ps: Because Linda J lives on St. Croix, she gave good advice.

Thank you all so much, that is more information than I started with. I will definitely check TA, don't know why I didn't in the first place actually, because that site has always been very helpful to me for my previous trips to other islands in the Caribbean.

We are staying at Judith's Fancy, is it a good area? Can you take walks in the neighborhood or to nearby stores, etc.? Thanks again, all...
