My first post!

I wanted to see if anyone had any advice, tips, tricks when I visit St. Croix in early May.

There are several questions I'd love some help on, but truly any restaurants to eat at, things to do, I'd love to hear.

First, is there a good place to rent a scooter in St. Croix?

Is there a good place to get some good local grub? My father is from the Caribbean so I've grown up with some if not most of the flavors of the islands and I'd love a chance to taste what St. Croix has to offer in addition to the many other cuisines.

Best place, for drinks? Of course, I'm heading down there with a bunch of friends and I'd love to find a spot that is good for late twenty-somethings and early thirty-somethings.

And again, if anyone has any thoughts on day trips, must-see places to visit or anything that is a must-do in ST. Croix, I'd love to hear about it!

Where are you staying? Will you be renting a car?

We are staying at the Dragonfly Villa and we've already rented a car for transportation around the island. From what I've read, that looked like a good idea. Still, I'll probably be looking rent a scooter mainly because my friend is paricipating in the Triathlon and I want to be able to follow him as much as possible.

And again, any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

For local food try Kim's on King Street in Christiansted. Also Harvey's on Company Street has great food but is open only for lunch. There's a guy who makes fantastic conch and fungi over on Lobster Street (I think). BUT he sells it in the wee hours of Saturday morning out of his garage and it sells out fast. I've never been to Villa Morales (near Frederiksted), but I understand their food is excellent.

Consider doing Tan Tan Tours for a day - I've posted about it elsewhere on this site. If anyone dives or snorkels, Cane Bay is the place to go on island or, better yet, take a trip to Buck Island (I recommend Big Beard's operation to get you there) - pristine nature preserve with incredible snorkel trail and perfect beach.

If you want a great local atmosphere in frederikstead. I would go for some of the best pizza and beer at the Lost Dog Pub. It is a great place for relaxation.
Is the Blue Moon cafe still open?
Cheeseburgers in Paradise is good too.

Blue Moon is still open, but at a different location on Strand Street.

Stop at the Full Moon Bar at Cane Bay on the north shore for specialty drinks of all kinds and a relaxed atmosphere where locals often hang out.

Don't miss Ft. Christian Brew Pub in Christiansted for home brewed micro beers and some pretty good food. Visit the hermit crab races on Monday evenings, also!

I wouldn't call the snorkel trail at Buck Island "pristine" any longer as it has been damaged by tourists over time and is also often covered in silt. It's dramatic, but not as colorful as most of the other reefs on St. Croix. There is some good snorkeling in the Cane Bay area. Ask at the dive shop by the Full Moon Bar and they can show you where to go. Or do a Discover SCUBA Dive!

Late evenings, you will find Bongos, Moon Rakers, and Club 54 open in C'sted. Usually not open until 10-11 PM, though.

There are lots of good restaurants and some exhaustive lists of suggestions can be found by doing a "search" on this website for past threads on restaurants on St. Croix.
