We are planning a week's vacation on St. Croix the end of May. We (3 of us) are looking for accomodations that we could walk out our door and do some snorkeling and sit on the beach. What would be the best area/beach to look for a hotel, condo or villa? Also are there places with fairly calm surfs in May? Thanks for any info.
Janet,
You might want to look into either the Cane Bay Reef club or the Waves at Cane Bay. Both are small hotels on the north shore which are within walking distance of Cane Bay (hence the names of the places) which has excellent snorkelling and beach. I know the Waves has a web page. I'm not sure about the Reef Club.
Hope this helps,
Ric
Hello,
No, I don't work for this place but my family and I have stayed there several times and love it : check out the Hibiscus Beach Hotel on St. Croix's north coast. It's quiet, well-maintained, air-conditioned rooms and has a nice little pool. It also has the best food, over-all, of any restaurant we've tried on the island. I believe they have a website but the number is 340-773-4042.
The beach is...well, there are lots of small rocks to trip on but this seems not uncommon on beaches I've seen on STX. Sufficient areas have been cleared, however, to make swimming enjoyable especially just a little further east near Cormorant Beach Club. If you like looking for shells and colored bits of broken glass this whole area is good for that plus some great "tropical paradise"-type photos.
Thanks
