I am looking into going to St. Croix for 10 days in July. I am looking into the Divi Carina and the Carambola? Any comments on the two. I want cleanliness and a nice beach. Also, how is diving and the beaches in St. Croix? How do beaches compare to Playacar Mexico, Curacao, Culebra PR, etc? I want nice beaches but also an island that is affordable.

Hello Deb,

My wife, son and I spent a week at the Carambola this past year in January. It was the second visit we have stayed there. While it is a little dated looking, they had just changed management at that time and were refurbushing the rooms. Rooms were clean, and staff was wonderful. The beach is beautiful, but somewhat rocky on the upper end. We snorkled there also, and it was interesting. It is very close to Cane Bay, where "the wall" is located (world class diving). They have a great restraunt, and the grounds are beautiful. The pool is nice also. Highly recommended.

The Divi, while I have not stayed there, we did visit on several occasions. The hotel is newer, so the rooms have a fresher, more modern look. The beach it nice, and has a pier going out a small distance. They sometimes have activities scheduled on the beach for more fun. The pool overlooks the beach also, which is nice. The casino is right across the street, for convience. Snorkeling wasn't very interesting there, as all to see was grassy beach bottom. You may have to drive to get good diving. Restraunt was nice.

Both places are great, go with what fits your budget best. Enjoy.
