My wife and I are going to St. Croix the beginning of April. We are renting a villa and are looking for advise on restaurants, beaches, nightlife and whether we should rent a car or not. Please help.

Thanks,

Joe

First things first. Yes you will need a car to really enjoy St Croix. You drive on the left but that is not difficult to adjust to. The roads are bit rough, but you will get used to that as the speed limit is about 35 mph or less on most roads.

I can't really advise you on nightlife, as I usually go to bed early. St Croix has some of the finest restaurants you will find anywhere. To name a few, would leave out some worthy ones as well. Look around...ask some questions. Same thing with the beaches. Do you like rustic private or groomed resort? Take your pick.

For one of the more interesting restaurant lists try

Hello Joe,

A few of the restaurants I enjoy are Rumrunners, Off the Wall, Cheeseburgers, the restaurants at Buccaneer Resort...

Beaches - I really like the beach at Protestant Cay primarily for the view. Cane Bay is nice. Chenay Beach is quiet and nice also.

Take a day sail to Buck Island.

Nightlife - see if there are any events/shows/music venues on while you are visiting.

For beaches click on "St. Croix" at the top of this site and then click on "Beaches". Islander has done a great job listing them with photos. My favorites are Cane Bay and Shoys. Recently there have been some problems with sewage lines breaking and beaches being closed because of this. I would ask about the beaches in Frederiksted (they are lovely) and also at Hotel on the Cay/Protestant Cay as they have been victims of this in the recent past. You certainly have enough time before you travel that this may not be a problem.

There are several bars on Company Street in Christiansted that have entertainment, as does Moonraker on Queen Cross Street in C'sted. I believe there are also several venues in Frederiksted, and of course there is the casno at the Divi. Ask around when you get there.

I'm leaving for on my 22nd trip there in 23 days (but who's counting).

Joe,
Where are you staying in St. Croix? Just curious as we are planning a trip in June time frame, but have yet to book anywhere as it gets so overwhelming.

Joe:

Cheeseburgers usually has live entertainment most nights of the week. Closes early though around 11 PM. Divi Casino often has a lounge band in their casino

Duggan's Reef on the east end of St Croix offers a very fine dinning experience right on the beach. Duggans is just a couple of miles from the casino on the east end road.

Enjoy your trip!

Jim

We're staying in a villa called Southern Exposure. Really looking forward to it as well.
