My family of 4 is traveling to St. Croix for the first time this June and would like a clean affordable condo to rent on or near a beach with good snorkeling. I would appreciate your help and suggestions. Thanks so much for your help.
Joanne

What is your price range? There are alot of very nice condos, villas for rent by the week. There is also a great vacation rental company on island...Vacation St. Croix. Visit their website at www.vacationstcroix.com to see the selection of villas (condos included) for rent by the week. This is a very reputable company and they are located on island and offer great service from start to finish.

Hi Joanne,
We have used Donna Ford with CPMI agency with excellent results. She is on the www.enjoystcroix.com website. We just discovered that Hovensa has taken up many condo rental units on the island for their workers for several months so you might want to check with a rental agency soon to make sure you can get one that fits your needs. You might also want to reserve a car early, or at least check with an agency on the island to make sure they will have a car available. We heard about this happening to some people a couple of years ago when we were on the island vacationing, but they told us that they had waited until the last minute to make reservations. Hopefully you will have no problems!

The Hovensa turnover is starting in May. I think the island will be pretty full during May-June. Suggest you get something soon.

Went down to the beach & pool at Gentle Winds & thought it would be a good place to stay. Big beach, pretty area. Never saw a room but did google it & they seemed reasonable for VI

Just out of curiosity, what or who is the Hovensa?

Sorry, Hovensa is the name of the refinery on STX. Every year or so they have several hundred temporary worker here to do some re-tooling of the facility, I'm not exactly sure what is involved.

Anyway, the company rents every hotel room, condo and apt they can get their hands on for 2 months.

Yes, Hovensa is the largest oil refinery in the entire Western Hemisphere if the Earth. It stretches for MILES along the central southern coast of the island. Suffice it to say it is HUGE and employs many, many people. Hovensa is constantly hoggins all the rental cars and hotel rooms on the island, so BOOK EARLY.

Would strongly recommend Coakley Bay - it's in the north, great pool, nice restaurant on-site, and lovely layouts. For a restaurant nearby, we've been to St. Croix twice and thought the food at Savant was phenomenal, as was the atmosphere - it's a highlight we can't wait for on our next visit! Have fun

Hey Todd. We usually stay at Coakley Bay as well but unfortunately we waited a bit too long to rent for May and Hovensa grabbed all the available Coakley condos up that we could find. We are still going for May but will stay in Diana's Fancy at Questa Verde this time. We've been wanting to try something mid-island anyway. Either way, Savant is also one of our favorites. We've dined inside and outside there and love the food and atmosphere.
