Hi:
I have been checking the forum for about a week now and have not been able to find much info about STX. We are going for the first time in August. and will be staying at Hotel on the Cay. Has anyone been to that Hotel? How is the island during the low season? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Rose,

Ive not stayed at Hotel on the Cay, however I have been there to look around. The beach was beautiful. There was a bar close to the beach - basically on the beach really - where I was told that in the eveings they sometimes have music and bbqs... The beach faces Christiansted. It was very quiet and peaceful. The buildings at the time I was there seemed like they were being renovated a bit, I had heard that they needed to be. I read two recent trip reports about stays at Hotel on the Cay. One said they really enjoyed it, the island charm of the place. The other seemed like they wanted more ritzy fancy resort accomdations so was a bit disappointed. So depends on what you are looking for I suppose.

St. Croix is a beautiful island, very spread out. Driving is great - I say that because on the other 3 islands; Water Island very small you can walk around LOL, St. John and St. Thomas the scenery is very similar - beautiful but similar throughout the island itself. On St. Croix you see the scenery changing, from Chrtiansteds beauituful historic yellow buildings to the dry east end with the fields of grass, sugar mills sticking out here and there. Then the lush rain forest area on the west end... really lovely. Great places to visit Whim Plantation, Cruzan Rum Factory, Cane Bay.... (Look at the St. Croix guide in the navigation - check beaches and attractions for pictures and descriptions). If you want to snorkel take a charter to Buck Island.

Particpate in the crab races 🙂

Have fun.
