Good evening all,

Will be heading to St. Croix in early December with a large group and staying at private residence. Have heard the cost of spirits could be significantly higher than here in the mainland. Could anyone tell me what I might expect to pay (rough idea) for 1.75 Liter of Absolut and 1.75 Liter of Grey Goose Vodkas on the island? Or even just a general rule of thumb for spirits...is it a 50% or 100% premium or something in between over mainland prices.

Trying to decide if we should pay the extra bag fees and bring what the airline will allow us to per person. Any feedback is most appreciated.

Many thanks,

Island Doc

Generally you will find alcohol cheaper than in the States though there will be some exceptions to that rule. And, there's no tax so there's already a savings right off the top of the price.

Bringing liquor to the islands is rather like taking tea to China and whoever told you that liquor prices are higher here than on the mainland is off base! Cost U Less supermarket on both STX and STT generally have the best prices and selection. CULess on STX wasn't able to give me prices on the 'phone and I can't seem to get through to CULess on STT right now but, to the best of my recollection, the last bottle of GG which I bought there a couple of months back was around $26/1.75L and Absolut around $15/1.75. I'll be popping in to CUless on STT within the next couple of days so can verify if nobody on STX gets back to you in the meantime. The prices will be pretty much the same on both islands. As FutureIslander pointed out, we have no sales tax here.

Good afternoon,

Thanks so much for your responses. This is great information to have and will save me the hassle and expense of lugging an extra suitcase. I appreciate the feedback very much.

Some folks pack soft sided cooler with frozen meats and speciality foods. Market basket items are typical more expensive and less quality then what is found stateside.
