Thinking about renting a small 2 person cottage on St. Croix next year. Nothing really fancy, but with a view. Any ideas?

Don't know if you are the same JoAnn that has helped so many out on this board, including me. A couple of years ago, we stayed at

It's a beautiful place for the self reliant traveler, one of STX's hidden jewels. You would need to rent a car and want to prepare some meals there, as it is a drive to either C'std or F'std.

Looks very nice! Is it relatively safe there? We stayed on STJ a few years ago, and our safe was broken into and money, passports, credit cards etc were stolen, so I'm a little paranoid now. Thanks for the tip, Liz.

Try cottages by the sea. Lovely.

Jo-Ann:

It is a small cottage on one of the last large estates, not too far away from the large estate house. We felt very safe. Search my posts from "Lizabeth". I wrote a lengthy trip report, including safety tips. We were told by a Federal Marshal's wife not to leave any valuables inside our vehicle. . .to roll down the windows. . .and leave the console open when we were in remote areas. We did this and did not have any problems and we went all over the island.

If you are a do-it your self-er, the place is perfect. If you're one that's into being waited on and into all-inclusive, you wouldn't enjoy Longford Hideaway.

Longford Hideaway is wonderful. It is a cottage on a working farm in a beautiful setting. It is near the main road, but you do need to drive to get to beaches, restaurants and shopping. Check out the website. There is a lot of info there. As Liz mentioned, it is definitely not for those who love being waited on or staying in an all-inclusive, nor is it beachfront. It does have a roof-top pool that is yours for your stay and a fully-equipped kitchen, bedroom and living room, also porches with table, chairs and a grill. The owners are friendly, helpful and very interesting people. I still dream of sitting out on the roof deck looking over the hills and sea with a Cruzan concoction and a good beach book........sigh

Hi Joanne,

We recently stayed at Livin' Easy villa and it was beautiful. The owner lives on site, but we had the pool and hot tub to ourselves. It is in a very nice neighborhood about 15 mintues east of Christianstead in the Green Cay Estate section. The cottage has 180 view of the Carribean and views of Buck Island. The guest "pod" is approximately 1000 sq ft. with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, ktichen and living area. Pool deck is very spacious, 6000 sq. ft. of outdoor living space. Rates were reasonable, but you will need a car. If you rent a car, a greeter meets you at the airport and you follow him to the villa. I highly recommend this villa.

Had bad experiance at longford hideaway, would not recommend - dirty, no breeze, long walk to beach. Check out the villa margarita - stayed a few times & always had great experiance.
