I am planning on relocating to St. Croix with my wife and two daughters in about three weeks. I am looking for a condo to rent in the area of La Grande Princess. Can anyone tell me which areas around Christianstead are safer and which areas ore more dangerous? I was in Christiansted for such a short time I could not really make any judgements. I do have contacts in the area, but I would like some unbiassed opinions. After reading the postings on this site, and articles in the VI Daily news, I am starting to wonder if my family will be safe on STX. I really do not want to start any arguments, I would just like some honest opinions about more safe areas and less safe areas. Thank you all very much.
I have lived in St. Croix all my life (I'm 18 years old and am studying in Rhode Island), and I can help you out:
The more unsafe areas around Christiansted are probably the numerous residential projects around. Times Square (the red light district) also has a lot of crime, but I don't think you would want to go there in the first place, there's just a bunch of rundown bars. The nicer areas of Christiansted are fairly safe, I go out to Christiansted all the time and no one has bothered me. But other than that, it's fine, you just have to use common sense, as there is crime everywhere. LaGrandePrincesse is a nice neighborhood, a pretty big area too. Do you know what part of LaGrandePrincesse the condo is located? Generally speaking, your family will be safe, just use common sense like walking near lighted areas at night and such. It is a nice environment to live in, and you will have a memorable experience.

Your family will be safe in St Croix. .. The area you are looking ,just west of Christiansted, has several very nice condo developments. They vary in cost, but all of them are really "bargains". The very high insurance and and Monthly condo fee costs have kept the selling prices down, rentals can be even less. Be sure to to have a realtor who will get you the "best price" and explain all of the actual costs. DO NOT depend on just one realtor or "deal". Get a "second opinion".
I am sure you have investigated the schools and enrolled your daughters in private schools in St Croix. If you haven't, you should...
I like the East End of St Croix (east of Christensted). You will pay slightly more for rentals and purchases of property. The area is less developed and has fewer problems. It also has very little shopping and less population. It does have the Casino, which I find quite objectionable, but that also brings increased security.

Yeah, for schools, definitely check out Good Hope School, it's a wonderful school, that has prepared me for college (I go to Brown, so Good Hope obviously does wonders for its students).
Thank you both very much for the information.
The condo I was looking at is the Grenada Del Mar because a co-worker is staying there also, and he likes it. School is not really an issue because my wife is a teacher and she has been home-schooling the girls from the time they were in kindergarten.
I really appreciate your input.
