We will be vacationing in St. Croix July 4 - 9. I have a couple questions. I am wondering what is it that we must do, what do you recommend? We want to relax a good bit but also want to explore and experience the island. I am looking for ideas. We are renting a car and are staying on the west end of the island.
I am also wondering about purchasing and engagement ring there...how does that work for warranties? I know here you buy a warranty and have to bring it in every few months to be cleaned. Do you just forego the warranty when buying so far from home? It's a long story but my fiance's surprise plan got spoiled and I know that his intention was to officially propose on our vacation (he unnofficially proposed on Christmas). He has not gotten a ring yet and is really considering buying it down there. Any thoughts?
Thanks to everyone in advance!

I am also wondering if anyone has advice on some romantic, secluded settings for us to check out?

hello jasmel

i'm pretty sure i know nothing about romance - you can just ask my wife of 34 years - but if you want secluded, you might check out jack's and issac's bay beaches - there in the southeast part of the island - the opposite end of the island from where your staying - it's a hikeing effort to get to these beaches but i think it's worth it & you will be alone. it will also give you a chance to put some scenic miles on that rental

click on st croix in the header at the top of this page for more beach info

also check out the recent thread started by kazmor about stx - it has some buck island info there

Try catching a sunrise at Pt Udall! Beautiful way to start your day...and both times we've gone it's been just us!! Then take a leisurely drive around the south and or north shore, winding your way back to Christiansted, and have breakfast at Paradise Cafe (I believe they open at 7:30 am)....delicious! If Stephanie's waitressing, tell her that the Underwood's from Ohio say "hello"! One of our favorite stops every trip! 🙂 Have fun!

Here are a couple of pics taken on the drive to Point Udall in April of this year:

With a view of Buck Island:

I have to say I just love this one...

And, Point Udall - not a soul there the day we drove out...

Hi there!

Back again! A wonderfully romantic way to end your day is a sunset sail with Capt Dee - www.sailbilinda.com

We left Green Cay Marina (east end) at 4:30, enjoyed rum punch and wonderfully yummy appetizers provided by Capt Dee, a little island music, and an incredible sunset! Returned around 6:30, I believe, then went into Christiansted to enjoy more drinks and dinner at Rumrunner's...though there are several dining options closer to Green Cay!

In between sunrise and sunset, just enjoy the island - plenty of beaches and adventures in between! 🙂

Thank you for all the ideas. I am also wondering if you can recommend some nice places to eat, especially seafood? I would also like to look into a couples massage on the beach. Is that possible? Who would you recommend? Thanks again!

I lived on the wonderful island of St.Croix for a little over three years and I have to say you will have so much fun!! I would make a trip to buck island on the top of my list. They also have sunset cruises you can take from the pier in christiansted. I loved the jewelry shops in christiansted. you really should get a crusian bracelet too. I'm not sure if it's still there, but there used to be a great Italian place in downtown christiansted called tutu bene that was great. There is also a fine dining restaurant called top hat in downtown christiansted. If you want to see a show there is a buffet on hotel on the key (christiansted) that's pretty good and has the famous moko jumbi (sp) dancers. There is a casual dining place in Christiansted called cheeseburgers in paradise that has live entertainment almost every night. Downtown christiansted also has crab races a couple times a week that are really fun. I'm sure you know they have a casino called Carina Bay across from the Divi resort on the east end in Christiansted. Point Udall is very pretty for sunrise. There is a rum factory you can tour and sample some of the great crusian rum from the island. I'm pretty sure they still have the beer drinking pig in the rain forrest.(don't worry it's non-alcoholic)Well, I guess that's enough for now any more q's, just ask..have fun in beautiful St.Croix!!

oh..I forgot...If you really want great seafood, visit duggan's reef on the east end. There is a great little deli accross from there too. If you love pizza, try stixx in downtown christiansted..

Carla, thanks for the info about Duggan's. We love seafood. We'll be in STX in 10 days!!! We can hardly stand the wait .
We have been drinking Cruzan rum drinks for weeks now just to get us primed for the honeymoon. Are there any roads we should definitely take a ride on to see some really gorgeous scenery?? We'll going to travel the whole island by jeep. Any particular spots that you'd like us to watch out for??

Tutto Bene has moved to a larger location just east of Christiansted. Top Hat closed a while back (a year or more?). I agree that Duggan's is fantastic, but Styxx no longer serves food. In fact, Styxx now only occupies the downstairs. Upstairs is a new establishment and I've not yet heard how it is doing. I wouldn't really say that Cheeseburgers is in Christiansted, it's several miles to the east. Right now the only night for crab races in downtown Christiansted is Monday at the Brew Pub.

Fine Dining (off the top of my head): Kendrick's, Tutto Bene, Duggan's, Savant, Bacchus, sometimes Rumrunners (which has good seafood and a great location).

Other good places(again, off the top of my head): Bombay Club (not an Indian restaurant), Full Moon Beach Bar at Cane Bay, Kim's (great local food).

I'm blanking on other places, but there are many. As far as things to do, Buck Island (of course), then I would take some or all of the following tours: Sweeny's Safari Tours (very knowledgable local man who tours historic and cultural sites), Tan Tan Tours (thrilling off road tours to places even most locals don't get to), Airventures in Paradise (a one hour tour of the island by airplane - $120 total for up to three people - it's great!). I've done all of these and loved them.

Wow, things have changed since I moved! Where is Tutu Benne now? I just said Christiansted for Cheeseburgers cause i didn't just want to say "east end" I used to go there at least once a week since I lived at Coakley Bay. Thanks for all the updates.

I usually stayed on the east side of the island and rarely ventured over to the other side. I do know there is a great hotel there named the fredericksted hotel(i guess it's still there). There are several hidden treasures on the island. If you ask any of the locals at your hotel or even at the casino, they will be more than happy to tell you the best places to visit while you are there. We hope to be able to return to the island to live one day when our children are a little older. They are 4 and 3 months now!!

St. Croix is a very romantic place and I am sure you will have a great honeymoon there!!
