All the web-sites I've come across have fishing for about $500-$600 for a half day up to 6 people. Does everyone who fishes in the VI always travel with at least 5 or 6 people because I'd like to go for a half day maybe but I can't afford that much money by myself. Can a single fisherman, get on a charter with other people to help reduce the cost? Thanks for any help.
Bill,
Yes most fishing charters are 6 packs... what you could do is call various fishing charters and see if on the days you will be there - if there are groups that are not 6 in number so that you could join the group... make the price less for them and youself as well... this is not uncommon you just need to find out if there are any groups booked that you could join with.
So contact some fishing charters and ask.

You can check out Capt. Loren Nickbarg (sp?) out of STJ or even www.southof20.com. Haven't gone with any of them but have heard nothing but positive reviews. As for your second question, yes, some charters do accept a single fisherman to make up quorum. All you have to do is call them up and ask. I have seen people on the net looking for others to make up a quorum to meet the limits of the charter. So that option does work.
Another option would be to rent a dinghy if you have your own gear and go about on your own if you are doing inshore stuff.
Good luck! I hope this helps.
Hi, Any info on techniques or areas to fish if renting a powerboat or dingy on St. Thomas. Will Trolling work in all areas, or are there specific spots that are recommended? I'll be there during thanksgiving if anyone is interested in sharing a boat for a day of fishing. I have enough boating experience to rent, I think they go for around $300 per day from Red Hook. St. Thomas is the best!

It would be less than that to rent a Zodiac at Mangrove adventures. A guide would be helpful. There is an area near St.James that has flats and is conducive to flyfishing.. Have never tried it though but have heard the same from several different sources on my last trip this month.. I assume trolling is a good option.
Have you tried fishing from a kayak? It's a whole different world. Email me if you are intrigued and I will point you in the right direction. Good luck!
Hi Patrick,
I had tried fishing from a kayak last time in St. Thomas, but without much luck, I actaully caught more fish from the beach. If you have any tips on Kayak fishing, that would be greatly appreciated! I also tried trolling from a dingy on St. John, without much success, but it wasn't real trolling in any form. I couldn't get your e-mail address from the link, so hopefully you'll read this and send me an e-mail at [email protected].
Thanks!!
Steve
