Hello! We will be spending Christmas on St. Croix, arriving 12/20- 12/27, but I know many of you spend the holidays on St. John or St. Thomas. What do you do for your holiday meals? We are staying in a condo with a full kitchen, and we do enjoy cooking (as much as anyone enjoys cooking on vacation in a strange kitchen). I'm thinking we might go out to eat Christmas Eve and cook a meal for Christmas Day... or vice versa. Do most places close for Christmas? Are more restaurants open Christmas Eve? If you cook, what type of meal would you cook? We don't feel the need for a typical Christmas meal... something with island flair would be great! Do the grocery stores generally remain stocked, or would we be better off bring some supplies with us from home?
FYI- If it makes a difference, we are 5 adults traveling together. So no kids!
There are many restaurants that have Christmas specials and buffets. They will all advertise in the Avis the week before. Decide where you want to go and make reservations. We've gone to the buffet at Carambola several times and thought is was good.
Having been fortunate to have spent many Christmases in STJ and STX, your concerns about the stores being stocked is totally unwarranted. Maybe 20 years ago, but 12/21/6 the stores should be well stocked. In recent years turkey, duck, and even goose have been available in the large stores. But it's still the islands, you won't find everything you want, certainly not in one store, but you will find what you need. Be flexible.
