Save your money and leave it at home. Speargun fishing is illegal in the USVI.

Its only illegal in the national park waters of STJ. Its legal every where else. I would contact the airlines and ask them what you have to do to check a bag w/ a speargun in it. People travel with rifles that are checked in all the time, I don't see what the difference would be w/ a speargun. Have fun & good luck.

I am assuming that spearfishing is legal everywhere else other than the NP waters off of STJ. If keeping fish that you catch fishing w/ a rod & reel is legal in the waters off of STT I would think that spearfishing would be legal also. I would check before I do anything though. I was told by our fishing guide that there aren't a lot of grouper in the USVI like there are in the reefs off of Florida. There are lots of Yellowtail snapper though, and they are a great tasting fish.

Hello Jeff,

Fishing regulations are posted on this site; here is the link: https://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/more_info/fishing/usvifishingregulations.php

I can't think of any places that rent the gear.

I agree with giving the airline you are flying with a call to find out their policies and how to pack/carry it.
