There's a new African-Caribbean drum museum open on Back Street that offers tours and participant drum workshops. Good activity if it rains.
Hi,
Thanks for the "411"...sorry I couldn't help myself;)
I have a question for you, are there any kind of drum circles on any of the beaches on STT? I'm in FLA and every Sunday at sunset there is one at a local beach. It is so awesome when everyone really gets the "tribal rythym" going.
Just wondering.
Thanks,
Kathy
Kathy, you're welcome for the 411 - you'd be surprised by the number of people who DON'T get it.
There's supposed to be a drumming circle that meets at Emerald Beach/Lindbergh Bay, but I'm not 100% certain of when. The guy at the Afro-Caribbean Drum Center (acdrumcenter.com I think) might have the info.
Emerald Beach has a gazebo/bandstand and picnic tables, so it's a nice spot for this type of event. It's near the airport.
Okay thanks ms411,
I'll try that website or just stop by the drum center next month.
Enjoy,
Kathy
Good morning,
I'm the guy from the Afro-Caribbean Drum Center. I came across this thread a few days ago but could not respond 'til I joined and got a confirmation email. I have been trying myself to find out where there is a full moon drum circle - I have been told Hull Bay or Brewers Bay. I had a Dinner party last night (full moon)so I did not explore. I have been meeting some of the drummers on the island and am considering starting a weekly drum circle downtown. I will post when it is decided.
The drum center has just opened a couple of weeks ago and we are ready to accept groups or individuals for the tour which includes a short drum lesson and jamdown for the finale. We are right in downtown and are air conditioned.
We have an ongoing open class on wed 5:30 PM for just $5 drum provided, no experience needed.
Please feel free to take the tour or class or just stop in and check it out. ACdrumcenter.com
