Last year the rangers were giving out tickets on Solomon beach. My wife and I are going down in Feb and were wonder if the ranger are still at it ? Has anyone who has been to Solomon in the last few months let us know. Thanks
Luke: Nudity is not lawful in the USVI. The ranger may or may not be there on any given day. In the words of Dirty Harry, "Do you feel lucky?"
prudes.
yes, they are still giving tickets.
you will have to find one of the more out-of-the-way beaches to strut your stuff.
then again, i have been on both cinnamon bay [the big part] and salt pond, both hugely popular beaches, with europeans who... well, acted like europeans. i personally do not care, but it was fun to watch the reactions of people who apparently did care. the women laid there naked most of the day, without any rangers ever showing up. perhaps by patrolling the few 'semi-acceptable' places, they have driven people to go naked anywhere.
It's really not a matter of "prudes" being uncomfortable with nudity. It's a matter of respecting the law and just as importantly local custom. Nudity is against the law and contrary to local custom in the USVI and BVI. What is so difficult to understand?
If you're looking for a secluded beach, try Lameshur Bay. My wife and I visit it every trip to St John and we're usually the only ones on the beach. Be prepared for a rough dirt road and don't go without 4-wheel drive...my wife calls it a white knuckle trip!!! Also, don't ask your rental agency for the directions as they don't want their rentals going to Lameshur.
