Hi! I will be traveling solo to the usvi this summer - I have been there several time before and want to try some new snorkel spots that I have not been to before.

I would like to go to Watermelon Cay and Salt Pond, but I am concerned about the safety of being a solo female traveler - these spots being more remote, I didn't want to take any unnecessary risks. I didn't want to snorkel alone with the risk of current around Watermelon. I have snorkeled in strong current before, but it is not the kind of thing that one should do alone.

Are there any small groups that go to these spots that I can join - either by boat or by land?

Thanks

I really would not worry too much about being a solo female vaction goer looking to do some snorkeling and sun tanning around the island. Visiting Waterlemon and Salt Pond are fantastic snorkeling and hiking spots (make the 1.5 mile hike out to Ram's Head from Salt Pond) and so they are also well populated. The only place you shouldn't go alone as a female on St. John is Lizard Landing!!! Its the "dance club" on st. john and attracts a fairly free speaking/hollering local crowd once the drinks and dancing gets going.

Josh
Waterlemon and Salt Pond are 1st on my list and I am a big hiker so planning on several of the trails. Do you have a favorite? I don't worry about night life, can't stay up past 9pm. Thanks

When are you going to be on the island? If it's when we're there you are welcome to join us.

I'll be there July 22-28. Sounds great morrispa,
I'm waiting to hear from
clownfish as to her travel dates too, perhaps we can get a group that follows this forum that might be there at the same time for a get together. I've already hired a cheap boat captain for a tour of surrounding islands.

Sorry, we will be there the end of May or we would have loved to do that.
