This is probably one of the more obscure things on here, but I've noticed some people playing fastpitch softball on the diamond in Cruz Bay, over the years we've been visiting.
I've never had the courage to speak up and ask to jump in, but always wanted to, considering I play a decent amount back home. Does anyone know if this is acceptable, or is it downright rude for some random mainlander to ask? The last few times it has been guys speaking Spanish, so the possible language barrier has been part of my hesitation.
I highly doubt they speak no English at all. I would just go up when they're taking a break (or in the dugout, whatever), do the usual pleasant Good Morning/Day/Night greeting and then just ask if it would be possible for you to join in some time during your vacation. They may just welcome you with open arms! Hope it works out - enjoy your visit!
That was going to be my approach, so I appreciate the rough confirmation. I've been able to stumble through other countries without the ability to speak another language, so I'll probably risk it for the laughs. Thanks!
Hey, all they can say is No and as the saying goes, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Can't hurt to ask. Good luck to you!
Hi, there is a Softball Federation that is under the Virgin Islands Olympic Committee. You might reach out to them, maybe they know about the St. John team and can provide contact information. Worth a shot if you want to make contact beforehand. Their facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/Virgin-Islands-Softball-Federation-171959592898750/. Otherwise agree with the others, that you can walk up while they are on break and introduce yourself.
