Searched the forum, posts say it's a blast. Has anyone done this on STJ & can you describe in a little more detail? My son is dying to do this (so am I!)
Thanks,
Geri
Dragon,
Live on STX. Have been to STJ a couple of times but never been diving there. Hook up with about any dive shop and they will set you up with a discovery dive. You spend about 15 minutes learning the basics and then about 30 minutes or so just swimming around looking at all the pretty stuff. You usually go about 25 feet down. Be careful. It is very addictive.

I am a PADI certified diver. A few years back, while on Tortola, I won a SNUBA session in a Karaoki contest.(obviously no singing competition around).
I did the Snuba on Peter Island and it was fun. However, I would suggest a resort course Scuba dive.(discovery dive) For a young person it is many times better.
The SNUBA is just like a shallow Scuba dive, but the air tank is on a float that drags behind you on a 20 foot hose. They are allowed to take you out with very little instruction.
The "discovery dive" allows you to do a real "scuba" ("self contained underwater breathing apparatus") dive without dragging the hose and tank behind you. You can have a better time and learn to enjoy the sights and sounds below the surface.
I don't know what the N stands for in snuba. noodle? naked? neutral? nauseous? nonsense? narcissistic? ?
I think the 'n' comes from the word 'snorkel'...snuba is a cross between SCUBA and snorkel.
