Yahooooo, we're coming back in November, after only ONE year, rather than five!!! Can't wait!! Anyway, I was checking out the Limnos Charter website since we had such a great experience with them in Nov to the Baths and Norman's Island and saw that they do a trip to the Soggy Dollar and Green Cay for snorkling. Can anyone comment on how good the snorkling is there at Green Cay or even around the stretch of Jost where the Soggy Dollar is? I am a little leary of the value of some snorkling spots particularly when they get promoted as we could easily see that snorkling at the Baths was a waste of time. But Green Cay??
Secondly, we missed dancing at Freds on STJ last trip as the band wasn't quite back for the season yet. Does anyone know if Fred's is still Freds and can we expect some music there as of late November? If not, can anyone comment on whether its worth a trip to one of the STJ hotels for dancing? We're Jimmy Buffet types and will be staying at Maho again but will pack clean shorts and a simple dress if we get good comments on dancing at one of the hotels. Thanks all- only 4 3/4 months to Paradise.

Congragulations on going back sooner than planned! My family/friends will be visiting STJ again from 11/24 - 12/1...just a little over a year from the last visit. We tried the Dominican Republic in February and couldn't enjoy ourselves because we were thinking about where we COULD have gone instead (STJ!) We can't wait to grab a painkiller and find a good local band. I'm anxious to see what you find out from your post.

Were going to the baths in a week.
Is it even worth seeing?

Yes, it is but it wasn;t what I expected though. There is NO snorkling and its very, very crowded. There are two beaches, both small and pretty, one is reachable pretty much only if you swim over to it. One of my undergrad majors was geology so seeing the rock formations was a big deal plus we went via Spanishtown so we got to see a little of VG itself. There's a cute restaurant and gift shop at the top of the parking lot at the Baths if you need that kind of thing. What can I say, if you like natural rock formations, you'll like it, otherwise, maybe not......I expected to be able to snorkle around the rocks which isn't possible and fewer people.

Yes, the Baths are crowded during tourist season. This time of year it might be less crowded though...I went in September last year and didn't pass hardly any people walking through. The tourist crowd on St. John has dropped dramatically in the last week, if that's any indicator. And no, don't waste your time trying to snorkel there. Not much to see...the beauty of the Baths is not the snorkeling though, it's the unreal, amazing rock formations on beautiful beaches, in my opinion. Enjoy!

We snorkled Green Cay during our BVI sail. As I recall, the sandy bay between JVD and the cay was full of starfish, which was pretty neat. The best part for fish, etc, was the reef on the SW (Sir Francis Drake) side of the cay. I remember the reef being very shallow; in some areas the surf broke over the top of it. I had to be careful not to get too close because it would have been easy to get pushed into the reef (it was January and the Christmas winds were blowing; Bubbly Pool was awesome - probably much more calm other times of the year). I'd say it was among the better snorkles of the trip.

Can you believe I'm still on these boards??? Okay, this is it...
