Has anyone done much snorkeling or diving from shore? I know about Buck Isl. & diving the North Shore wall etc. But I would think with the long stretches of reef that run through nearly all the bays, especially on the East End, north & south shore. There has to be some good spots (snorkel or dive) with shore or beach access?? I plan on looking for some when we return this May! Any thoughts?

Thank you,
Jim W

hey jim,

to be honest, i don't know much about the diving on the north, south or east.... but if you hit me up with any questions about the west end, i can probably help. there are some dive sites within a surface swim off of st croix's shores. but to be honest, i would recommend diving with a shop. my personal preferance is scubawest. chris, laura and hilary run a great operation and are extremely friendly. plus the west-end has the calmest waters on st croix (most of the time). it's pretty rare that there are swells when diving out west. plus there's over 20 moored dive sites on the west-end alone. not too shabby!

Mr Coffee guy is right. the best beach snorkeling and diving (with the exception of Cane bay) is on the west end of st croix.

The beautiful sandy beaches with coral offer the best dive and snorkel experiences. They area off shore of Fredrickstad and along the pier has some of most interesting sealife (including seahorse babies).

The problem is that The Virgin Island government has allowed this area to be dominated by a "gang" mentality. In other words, they do not control the criminal element that makes this area less desirable. We are talking about the BEST beaches on St Croix. Beaches that most travlers will not use because the police have not done their job.

These beaches are still very safe during day time hours, but the police are not doing their job after dark. This might change as tour ships begin to once again try to dock on the west end of st croix.
