Question - My husband is an amputee (one leg). We would like to go snorkeling when we are in St. Thomas via the new Mariner of the Seas. Our requirements are a little different than the normal "two-legged" person. Could you suggest a snorket trip that is a boat that can take us out to snorkel off the boat, that isn't to crowded? My hubby cannot walk in the sand with crutches (he must take his leg off because the salt water would ruin the "fake leg") so he must be able to dive into the water from a boat and leave the leg on the boat while in the water. He is a great swimmer, the missing leg doesn't cause any problems, just getting through sand is the problem. We would like to go on a 3 to 4 hour excursion with a small group. Maybe you also might have another idea. Is there a beach that has a boardwalk where he could get out to the water without walking in the sand? Thanks for any information.
We have always had a good time on New Horizons II out of Sapphire Marina. It is a 65 foot Ketch and is always a very relaxing day with two stops for snorkeling and a nice meal in between. The size of the passengers varies but we have never felt crowded. The crew has always been very accomidating and helpful.
Hello Susan,
I agree with Rick on New Horizons II
you might also look at Jester Day Trip they take out a smaller group - max 6 people

As for beaches... Sapphire is one I have recommended to persons in wheelchairs that could be assisted to the water... there is a cement path which leads to a patio/bar and then the water is a short distance by sand from that point. However it would still require your husband to walk in the sand as would the other beaches. So I agree that a boat trip might be the best. Look the two suggestions up and perhaps call and ask questions about your needs - see which one would work best for you.
Have a great time.

Actually just thought of a beach with a ramp into the water - Hull Bay. It is more of a local beach - I suppose that is why I didn't think of it right away. It isnt a dock its a boat ramp made of cement that goes right into the water at a slight angle. It is possiable for your husband to walk down the ramp and sit on the edge and get into the water.... but I still think the boat trip might be more fun and easy. Also the edge of the boat ramp is kind of slippery from algae.
