I booked a snorkeling excursion in St. Thomas called, Captain Nautica's Snorkeling Expedition, which is booked through Princess and I was wondering if anyone has done this excursion and if it's worth doing. I really want to do some great snorkeling in St. Thomas and want to know if I'll get a better snorkeling experience through this princess excursion or booking one in the actual port that is not affiliated with the ship. Any suggestions are really appreciated!!
Here is a brief description of Captain Nautica's Snorkeling Expedition:
Your small group boards a state-of the-art, 31-foot, hard-bottomed inflatable for the cruise to two of the best snorkeling sites surrounding St. Thomas and the Virgin Islands National Park. Enjoy approximately one hour exploring the colorful reefs at each site.
Snorkeling at coki Beach was some of the finest in the Caribbean. we got our snorkel equipment from Perfection Equipment rental and Daiquiri Station . The water is crystal clear the gave us some food for the fish AKA (dog bones} and the fish just eat right out of your hand the fish are everywhere all around you. It's a wonderful underwater experience. Also Perfection daiquiri Station has the best fresh fruit Daiquiri's in the Caribbean. The owner Boise " Mr. Potato Man " and his wife and staff are some of the nicest people we have ever met on vacation. Make sure if you go to St. Thomas coki Beach is a must. An experience you will never forget......
Although the Captain Nautica operation is (as of quite recently) under new ownership, this is a well-established business with an excellent reputation and I have in the past very much enjoyed their trips with visiting friends and family. Although I agree with the former poster who was more than happy with the Coki Beach snorkeling, Captain Nautica will take you to beautiful spots only accessible by boat and, since their boats are fast, different sites and plenty of time at each. Have a great visit. Cheers!
I work part-time on a snorkeling boat down here and can tell you that most of the boats and snorkeling trips are the same regardless of how you book them. About the same price as well. The only difference is, when you book through the cruiselines instead of directly, the ships take about half the money. The boat owners generally don't mind this though as the cruise ships provide most of their business. In any case, Old Tart is right - Captain Nautica has a great reputation and it's doubtful that you will be unhappy! One thing: the crew work hard (before and after the trips - not just during) and generally only work for tips, so keep that in mind if they do a good job! 🙂
