Looking for advice re: some good snorkeling spots close to the shore around St. John. What are the shark populations there? Advice? Predominant corals? And particularly, where are the best reefs near shore and what have you seen? We'll be there in July '02.
Some of our party need to rent snorkeling equipment. Suggestions of where to rent it? Thanks!

Honeymoon Beach has some very nice snorkeling.
Have heard that Waterlemon Cay is a good spot as well.

Hello, I have found an excellent near shore snokeling site on the east end of St. John. It is round bay, more specifically Hansen Bay. It's the reef around Pelican Rocks which stick up out of the water. You go out past Coral Bay and keep heading east until the road comes to a dead end turn around. The predominant coral Species is Montastrea annularis. I have seen a few nurse sharks there as well as a diverse fish population. There is also a seagrass bed to the south east with a population of about 5-10 BIG green turtles. It is by far the best near shore snorkeling that I have encountered in the VI. As far as renting gear try Cruz bay or possibly coral bay watersports. I hope that helps. If you need any more info. let me know.

Cheers-Adam
