If there was only one place you could snorkel in St. Thomas or St. John where would it be. It can not be both. It has to be one or the other. If someone came to you and said: "Between St. Thomas and St. John where is the best place to snorkel." What would you say. That is what I want to know. It doesn't matter what island, I just want the absolute best snorkeling that can be accessed easily.

I would deffinitely have to say Coki Beach on St. Thomas. Lots of colorful fish there. Have been to other beaches including St. John, but nothing compares. Trunk Bay would be my second choice.

I'd have to say off Waterlemon Key on St. John.

Eric: Your question cannot be answered. The best place to snorkel varies depending on the weather, swells, and other factors. Why not pick a beach and enjoy what you see?

I agree with Linda. Waterlemon is the best place on STJ. Not having snorkeled off STT, I couldn't give an opinion for that island, but Waterlemon has lots of starfish, turtles, lots of coral around the Cay. The snorkeling around there is terrific, but watch the swells on the back side of the island. They can be pretty rough. The little island has a beach that you can rest on if you wish. Watch out for a barracuda in the water (BIG) and the donkey on the shore (snack stealing!!)

Eric,

You said with easy access... So

Coki is my vote for St. Thomas. And for St. John Trunk Bay.

Waterlemon is great but requires a bit more commuting time then getting to Trunk bay... the taxi trip would be longer and then you have to hike along a trail to get to the beach area where you swim out to the Cay snorkeling area. It is worth doing if you have the time. Also Waterlemon doesn't have any facilities if that is a requirement. Trunk bay has showers, lockers, bathrooms, rental for gear....
