My family will be staying on St. Thomas in March and we would like to do a full day snorkel trip to Buck Island. Is this even possible from St. Thomas? If anyone knows, can you please give me the name of the company?
Thanks!!!

Which Buck Island? There is Buck Island Reef National Monument, off of St. Croix or Buck Island National Wildlife Refuge, off of St. Thomas. See a post by Islander dated 6/21/05. I am going to assume you mean Buck Island St. Croix.

The regular ferry from St. Thomas to St. Croix stopped service this year. A new company called Island Lynx is supposed to start service soon. I checked their web site today and found a schedule posted for only a couple of days starting Feb 17th to Feb 20th. The cost for an adult is posted at $70 plus some fees making is $74 round trip to get to St. Croix. Obviously the service hasn't started yet so no one knows what it will be like. Here is the web site for the new ferry to St. Croix. http://islandlynx.com/

There is also a Sea Plane that makes several trips between the islands but I thought it was very expensive. Just a hint when they show the fare on their web page it is for one way. Seaborne used to do a package with the other ferry company where you could fly to St. Croix and then take the ferry back. You could call them and see if they have plans to do this with the new ferry company if you want the adventure of going on a sea plane. http://www.seaborneairlines.com/

I looked into a trip for snorkeling off Buck Island St. Croix. There are a few "approved vendors" allowed into the park. Most run both half and full day trips. I never checked into them any further because the ferry boat service had stopped.

You wouldn't want to do a FULL DAY snorkel trip to Buck off of STT. If that is the one you want, then Doubloon is fun - mock pirate ship...or Castaway Girl (1 or 2) as well as SEVERAL others do half day trips. I have no idea what the cost is, but you can do AM or PM. Doubloon is probably the easiest, because they have a store/office in Havensight.
