Hi-
We are planning a trip to the carribbean in June. Divi Resort in St. Croix or Secret Harbour in STT? We like to snorkel and will be traveling with our older sons (21,25) and grandma! Divi looks awesome and we could possibly use our RCI timeshare. We could also maybe stay at the Westin in St. John but the beach is not good but could get a car! Help Please!

Get the car for STJ. Westin is a nice resort, but you need to get ou and see STJ to make your visit worthwhile. Get the book 'St John Off the Beaten Track' (link at top of page), which will help tremendously.
Strongly urge a day sail with one of the local STT or STJ charters. They take you to wonderful sights for snorkeling and can often design your day around what you want to see.

The Divi is a very nice, new resort with many amenities. You will want a car for at least part of your stay, as the snorkeling on that beach is not much. There are many beaches to explore, a lot of history, good shopping in Christiansted and excellent restaurants.

Great snorkeling at Buck Island, Cane Bay, Frederiksted, the back side of Protestant Cay and many other places. Check out "Beaches" under St. Croix (above)

Hello Lynn,

If you decide to stay on St. Croix definately do a sail over to Buck Island for snorkeling in the marine reserve area there.

On St. Thomas, Secret Harbor has pretty good snorkeling at their beach. Other choices are Sapphire Beach, Coki Beach & Hull Bay for snorkeling. You can take the ferry over to St. John for a day and do some snorkeling there at Cinnamon Bay, Trunk Bay, Waterlemon, Lameshur Bay...

Lots of snorkeling options!!

Go to St. John, stay at the Westin, rent a car and go see the most magnificent island of all!!!

Yes, all of the USVI have natural beauty and charm (we've been to all), but only St. John has 3/4 of its land run and maintained by the US Forest Service..that equals PRISTINE!!!!!!

It is very easy to drive around St. John- much easier than St. Thomas!

just got back from STJ and was heavy into snorkeling, totally recommend. Stay at a villa, if you need cheap stays, look into Coral Bay. The island is small, get a hardtop wrangler and drive everywhere. Don't forget Solomen's and Honeymoon, off the Lind trail right in Cruz Bay next to National Park building--better than Trunk. Must do: Waterlemon and Lameshurs. Didn't get to snorkel Cinnamon, but heard it was an aquarium. Get a dry snorkel, worth the extra cash.

I have only snorkeled once, but what is a "dry" snorkel?

Dry snorkel has a valve on top that closes off when water hits it. So dive down to see an interesting nugget--valve closes, water stays out--when you pop back up to surface, you breathing again. We did Waterlemon in some chop and my snorkel stayed dry. Nothing will keep water out 100%, but there is a purge valve that is easy to use. Our friend had a wet snorkel and I could tell the difference and was glad to have spent the extra cash. Trust.

Grace,
Do you snorkel STJ often? Did I miss something in not hitting Cinnamon?--did the Lameshur instead. Too many beaches. SILLY! Did you score a rash guard yet? Ebay has great deals at $10 average.

Hello Connie,

If you miss a beach it's a good excuse to go back.Right? This is our 3rd trip to St. John. It's been a long time in coming. It's my favorite island and we have been to most of the islands. I am counting the days (70)till we go back. I'm looking forward to going to Lameshur this time. We did most of the northern beaches and a few in the south. Another beach recommended to us is Hansen Beach it's in the east end.
I did check out the rash guards but I think they are for slimmer gals than myself. They are suppose to fit tight. They have beautiful colors and designs and a local store carries them and before I give up I will check them out.

Stay warm in New Jersey.

Grace

Grace,
You're right, saving pennies now! VA's our state--the boyos dig the rat pack and it slips into the lingo. Total posers. Our kids laugh at us but G's martinis are beyond compare. Lucky girl.
