Life will soon be more pleasant for the majority of people in the USVI.
Notice that 97% of non-smokers are opposed to breathing other peoples secondhand smoke.

Maybe. I'm betting that the legislation will be approved with a clause relieving Divi of the policy....since they can claim financial penalty for the smoking ban.

I would bet the Divi and a few other places are exempt.

How is that to be enforced? Just asking.

Senator Malone's proposed bill is still being written and obviously passage of anything takes a long time between inception and becoming law but I think it will probably happen at some time in the future. Whether casinos or other entiies will be excluded from any legislation is pure speculation at this early stage.

As far as enforcement is concerned, that should be very interesting, given that, for instance, I see at least 20 people every day driving with their hand-held cells jammed to their ear.

Rotorhead and others might have a whole part-time second career (and lucrative government position) ahead of them going underground as smoker-spotting bounty hunters. Imagine armies of helicopters rigged with ciggie-smoke sensors whop-whopping over the islands, backed up by specially-trained uniformed ground contingents ready at a signal to swoop on the dastardly lawbreakers and throw them in the already over-populated correctional facilities. Or maybe the lawbreakers will be put in the stocks and publicly humiliated by being pelted with rotten tomatoes and eggs. The possibilities are endless.

Cheers!

STT Resident,
As a devout naysayer, maybe you should consider how this law will affect your business. Rotor will be happy! How about you? All of the smaller Restaurants in Atlantic City NJ cried foul when the ban exempted casino's. Alot of them are no longer in business.

Lizard: As the anti-smoking legislation has boomed all over the world and come ever closer to the USVI it's always been not "whether" but "when." Like everyone else I'll just have to deal with it. I doubt my business will be affected as the majority of my customers are non-smokers but neither has there been a problem to date. I have a nice non-smoking dining area (with a/c) separate from the main bar and if the law is passed then I can just take down the non-smoking signs in that area. Cleaning up butts from the parking lot will be just another chore. I shall now light up another and get to work on the million domestic duties awaiting me on this grey and murky day. Cheers!

STT Resident,
After exhaustive research I have found the solution to your butt problem. The details are on the other smoking thread.
