I had three motor boats, and I seem to remember "a boat is a hole in the water that one pours money into"

These guys are being silly but the answer is what do you think inexpensive is? ON STJ we rented a small powerboat for a day and it cost over $200 plus some gas $$ I think, about 5 years ago. A bigger question is why do you want to rent one? If you want to cruise around between all the islands, I strongly recommend you find a real navigational map of the US and British VI's BEFORE you arrive. The so called maps the rental places give you are glorified placemats and you can get lost easily.

There are two three places in Red Hook that rent boats, but inexpensive they are not. Price + Gas = a bunch

Nauti Nymphs comes to mind. They are 25 to 29 feet with big outboards on the back. www.st-thomas.com/nautinymph
There are other rental places I just cannot remeber the names. Ocean Runner maybe and See and Ski. Google power boat rental St Thomas.

Another option and it depends on how small you are talking about. There is a place in STJ I think it is called Noah's little Ark that rents dinghys. Great way to explore the North Coast of STJ. They have a 15hp engine and 4 adults is about the max. They run about $75 for 1/2 day.
