We stayed for four nights on StJ and two of the six in our party were eaten alive, even with deet and skin so soft. You could have played connect the dots on them. The villa we had did provide ac in the bedrooms and netting for the beds but it was really bad. You could not sit outside and had to make a mad dash from the pool to the house. They pretty much ruined that part of the trip. I have been there two other times and had no problem. Was it all the rain lately that brought them out. Our villa representative said the island is not sprayed but on our first visit we stayed at the Westin and never saw one. One waitress told my daughter who is in her twenties to use gin. Has anyone else had trouble?

We had the same problem at our villa in Chocolate Hole. We saw very few mosquitos anywhere else, even going through the woods to the beaches, where I thought we would see loads of them. But in the villa, wow, many, many bites.

My wife thinks I'm the greatest thing since sliced bread because I packed the Cutters before we left home. That helped, but didn't cure the problem.

Bruce, where were you staying? The lower elevations, especially near the water can make you feel like you're hosting a mosquito convention. We've rarely had problems higher up, except one year when it was very rainy and the tradewinds just crapped out.

We were pretty high up,off Route 10,just a couple hundred yards down Route 104. Two in our party got lots of bites while the rest of us were untouched. They were all over the inside of the house.

We were there last week and really got eaten up by mosquitoes. They were worse in the villa at night when you were defenseless! My son was covered in bites, thank goodness someone had left calamine lotion at the villa. You hate to put DEET on kids, especially before they go to bed. We were in a villa just above the Westin, so not too high. We talked to someone who had been at Maho Bay at the same time and said they never saw any mosquitoes. We also killed a large scorpion in the bedroom, but that's another story!
