We are trying to pack light for our trip. What do you guys do with your winter jackets that you need to get to the airport. Do you just take them with you or do you just freeze on the way to the airport terminal? Anyone have any secrets? Wouldn't it be nice if there were storage lockers at airports where you can leave that kind of stuff? Could leave it in the car but long term parking requires us have to stand outside and wait for a shuttle to get to the terminal. And same thing when we return.

I guess I can make my husband drop us off at the terminal and then let him freeze trying to get back!

Any helpful hints?

We always draw straws to see who has to go park the car and freeze their butt off coming back to the terminal.Funny as hell sometimes too!

We had friends who dropped us off and picked us up. Just wore a heavy flannel, or light polar fleece jacket both ways with jeans & a t-shirt. That way, if we absolutely needed them (came in handy on the flight!) we had them.
And yes, I live in a cold climate - from MN. Was 30 the morning we went to the airport and experienced a 65 degree temp drop on the return trip!

My strategy is to leave space in my carry-on. I just wear a polartec to the airport which gets stuffed in the carry-on. I have a pair of shorts in the carry-on and leave space to stuff my jeans in there when I change into the shorts. I sometimes change into the shorts during the flight. I love that moment when you step out of the plane on STT and the tropical air envelops you. I like to be dressed for it.

We left our winter coats in the car & when our son picked us up at the airport, the coats were nice & warm!! We wore our jeans on the way down so we would have them to wear home. Then I bought us each a sweatshirt on the last day there so we could wear them home. Not many people buying sweatshirts down there!!
I saw alot of people getiing ont he plane in St. Thomas in shorts or sundresses on & when they were on the plane, they changed into their jeans!

I just got home last nite, & what a bummer!! Going from 85 everyday for a week, then coming home to 35!! The one thing we both noticed is the color we are missing now. In St. Thomas the sky is soo blue & the water is an awesome blue and the vegatation is all green. Home in Wisconsin now everything is brown & dead looking!!

all of the above are great ideas....i always take a polar fleece zip up light jacket even for the plane it gets cold on planes and those flimsy blankets they give you are not enough! also always wear jeans and sneakers and warm socks...feel it is safe on a plane god forbid...
then when i get to the airport i put my earmufs(those great ARTIC 180's are incredibly warm!)and gloves and scarf into my suitcase outside pocket before checking my bag!

in my little carry on is a pair of cheap sandals......
when i am halfway there i take off my long sleeve shirt and under is a sleeveless tee...put on my sandals and put the sneakers and soft jacket into the carry on!

on the return trip i just wear the sneakers to the airport....and put the socks/earmuffs/scarf/jacket into the carry on.....

always have a bottle of water....if you have to wait on line in the heat you will need it!

i like that idea about buying sweatshirts down there at the last minute ! i will try that!

this trip will be a breeze in two weeks...my husband is staying home so he will drop my friend fran and i at the airport and pick us up so he can hold our coats! and those christmas tree lights better be all done by the time i get home

Thanks for all the great advice. Sitter, where in Wisconsin do you live? I live in Oregon now but spent 7 years in Madison. Loved the town but got tired of the winters. Now all I have to put up with is rain, rain, rain, rain!
