Short review of trip. Well what can I say, rain and more rain. But managed to have a good time despite the pour down day after day. Loved Island Blues, the place became a regular hang out for me. The place is fun and Monday night karaoke night is a hoot. They really make you feel welcome here and the blackened mahi is awesome and a great price. Went to skinny legs once, didn’t care for it, so I didn’t go back. Bad service, warm beer, not a good experience there. Last day in St John the weather cleared up. Went on new horizons 2. This was truly the highlight of my trip, I can’t say enough about how the staff of new horizons made sure everyone had a nice time. The Snorkel spot they picked however wasn’t great, didn’t see anything. Stayed at Coral Rays Villa. Was very nice on the inside but wont stay here again due to the fact its very difficult to get in and out of the parking area. Even with a four-wheel drive the car was slipping back constantly due to the very steep wet muddy road leading to the villa. Simply dinner plans that evening turned into an ordeal of getting out . Plus, the villa had several leaks in the roof. Was funny to see how many pots and pans I used around the villa trying to catch all the rain coming in. Some of the doors of the villa didn’t lock, locks were broken. Rented vehicle with courtesy rent a car . Gregory that works there was great. Laid back and easy going. I will rent here again. Bummer there was so much rain, I feel I didn’t get to see the beaches at their best. I can always hold out hope for good weather next year.

Texasgal,

Sorry to hear your trip was so rainy. I noticed your name as one I sent Coral Rays photos to. I can't even imagine pulling out of that parking area and going up that hill with the roads all wet! We had several very brief rain storms and one pretty nasty one during one night, but never saw a leak. It's a shame though because the villa really is wonderful. My husband and I really miss sitting in the hot tub and watching the lights come on over on Tortola! We are really hoping to get down there again sometime soon. We're torn about staying at Coral Rays again or picking a new villa. We really did like the Coral Bay end of the island and the view from Coral Rays.

Well, i have to be honest here. I wont be renting that villa again, not until they do something about the parking situation and maybe consider at the very least smoothing out the road to the villa. Made leaving a big hassle everytime we wanted to leave. Since there is a villa under contruction nearby, we had to time leaving just right or risk getting stuck as dump trucks go by on that less then one lane dirt/muddy road. If i lived there id be ok with it for awhile but on vacation, i leave to get away from the drving headaches dont need them while in on vacation. People that see the villa online do not realize what it takes to get up and down to that parking area, for some it might be ok, but for me , it wasnt fun, cool, awesome or any of those things. I cant imagine them renting it to any seniors who may inquire about it. If they do, i hope they mention the parking and road, if u can call it a road.

Went to island blues once to watch them, but they didnt seem to thrilled to change it off the weather channel they had it on..lol the villa has dish network that went out every 2 innings. Plus rain coming in from the roof ,,but i wasnt going to leave the stros,,I was so bored i even watched the American leauge games,,,sad huh?

Well, Islander it happens, first time in 8 vacations I got rained out so that’s a pretty good average. I really feel sorry for the people I met that were there for weddings, honeymoons, or special occasions, not that a vacation is not a special occasion but im already planning next year and where to go. Im really glad I decided to do the new horizons 2 my last night. It helped me feel it wasn’t a total loss. Had a great time with them.

LMarie,

I read your vacation description and offer of pictures of Coral Rays. We have booked Coral Rays for our vacation next January and would love to see your pictures if you have a chance. We are a little concerned about the drive up there but we have dealt with the roads in that area before so I think we can handle. The villa looks amazing. We are taking some friends to St. John for the first time. If they survive the first drive up there I think they will have an amazing time. We are taking our son along as a guide. He will be going in April for his 4th visit to st. John (not bad for a 17 year-old.

Please send picutres to [email protected]

Thanks.

Texas-

Did you have a car or a 4WD? I've been lucky enough to nevr encounter serious rains on STJ, but have heard that a 4WD is absolutely essential if you do encounter serious rain.

Sorry about the rain. It really is the VI Vacationers worst fear - rain each day, all day. I feel like I should knock wood since I have never encountered it. I have my share of bad luck on other areas, so don't feel bad.

Was it at least romatic??? Any lemonade out of those lemons?
