Hi! We have our first vacation to USVI coming up in one week. Does anyone have suggestions for good shopping for 17 yr old son and 12 yr old daughter. He likes clothes & music, she likes clothes & jewelry (nothing too expensive!), and lots of other "stuff". We will be on STT and STJ.
scotlady-
The good thing about the shopping is that it's all pretty much in one place. If you just head to the downtown Charlotte Amalie area and go to Main Street, you'll be in the center of a walkable shopping mecca. Off of Main Street are other small sidestreets and passages with nothing but shops and restaurants - clothing, music, jewelry, artwork, etc.... Aside from the beachwear shops, there are big name stores like Polo, Tommy, etc.
Aside from Main Street on STT, you can also shop at Havensight Mall where the cruise ships dock and Red Hook (Red Hook is a much smaller shopping experience - just a few stores for gifts and such).
St John offers a nice shopping experience at Mongoose Junction with lots of shops in a tropical outdoor courtyard kind of place...really nice and you'll find lots of quality resort wear, T shirts, sandals, etc. There are also art and gift shops which are worth exploring for their unique items. Stroll from Mongoose junction down to where the ferry docks and you'll find more shops with jewelry, art, clothing, etc.
If they like shopping, they should try both STT and STJ.
Hope this isn't too late. The Purple Papaya on Main St in St Thomas has lots of trendy teen clothes. I'd check there first.
Not sure what you mean by "not too expensive." St Thomas has precious jewelry in all price ranges, so you should be able to find even something in a either sterling or 14KT at a decent price. However, if you want CHEAP costume jewelry that's popular with teens (like Claire's), check out the Vendors' Plaza (you'll see the tents on the waterfront). Prices there start at about $4. Ask for Z (no, I'm NOT Z 🙂 )
