*hi, my husband and i will be there in august and we were wondering what kind of local department stores are on the island for general shopping not tourist shopping, you know like wal-mart and such in the event that we lose our luggage or just decide not to bring any luggage to lose ,please send me a list of local shopping stores and possible locations.

I hope you have more optimism about your trip than that! 😉 As far as Wal-mart - there is not one, but there are a few K-marts. One in downtown Charlotte Amalie. I don't know of other major chain stores. I am sure others will let you know where to buy luggage, but I would guess that K-mart would be the cheapest. Good luck and have a good trip!
