I am not normally a winter visitor and have always been told that I need to visit in winter if I want to collect any shells.
I was also told that Hull Bay is the spot for shelling. Is this true? Is there another place?
I am speaking of STT only. Thanks!
The beaches on the north side of the island usually have shells. Try Stumpy or Dorthea.
Also, the boyfriend, who works on a daysail, said that he had a couple of people who had picked up tons of shells from the beach at Christmas Cove on St James Island just off the east end. Whether or not they were supposed to is beyond me, but they did.
Happy Hunting!
I have found a number of shells on John Brewer's Beach...
I thought shelling was technically illegal, or is that only within the Parks territory?
Chris,
You're right, it is illegal to collect shells from beaches in the Virgin Islands and I have seen shells confiscated at the airport by customs!
Yes, should have mentioned that...I am not taking these home. Shelling doesn't equate to bringing home for us.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
LOL
Don't worry Bluewater, I'm not playing the part of shell police today and won't report you to Homeland Security. Of course, if GW gets his way, someone else is already tracking this discussion so look over your shoulder 🙁
Yeah...I guess GW needs to find "something" (shells in my bags) cus he sure can't find any WMD.
Maybe I will smuggle some back just to help him fell like he found something.
Hey GW, my bag is a black samsonite and I'll tie red bows on the bag of shells to make it easy to find. Then again, maybe I won't bring shells back at all, and you can just say I did. Nah, everyone is already hip to that game, right? 😉
Stumpy is a good place to find shells - BUT....you need 4 wheel drive to get down the road safely. It is a very secluded beach - which is why I enjoy going there.....*wink* if you know what I mean. I have actually picked up a good deal of sea glass there. Who cares if it started out as Heineken bottles 😉
