When reading a previous message . The question came up , what do people use for shade on the beach .Some one said there are limited umbrella's for rent. If we are going to be on the beach for most of the day, i don't want to rely on sun screen alone.
Todd,
You didn't indicate which beach you are referring to. Most beaches in the islands are not that wide and have palm trees on the edges.
todd,
the amount of shade on stj north shore beaches depends on when you are there. the closer you are to the winter solstice, the more shade there will be from the palms and sea grapes that line the beaches. based on stj's latitude (or is it longitude), during the summer, the north shore beaches get the sun from the north and there is little shade except early mornings or late evening unless you really move back into the bushes then the noseeums eat you alive.
our trips have been between oct and april and i have always found a nice shady spot for me (when not snorkeling) and the bride has her full cancer causing sun (except when a cloud passes over). if looking for shade in summer, there should be plenty at little lamshure and other southern beaches with taller vegetation along the shore since the sun will be north of the island.
enjoy.
