Hi,
I am one of the class sponsors of the Class of 2008 at Mtn. View - Gotebo High School in Mtn. View, OK. The class recently voted to go to St. Thomas for their Sr Trip in May 2008. They have worked really hard for the last 2 years to raise the money for this trip and we want it to be special and worth all of their hard work.
I'm seeking advice on where to stay and what to do while on the island. We will have a group of 17 students all 18 years of age and 6 adults. Do any of you know anything about Bolongo Bay? The only quote we have received so far from our travel agent was for Bolongo Bay. I've read a lot of reviews and there seemed to be a lot of negative ones. We are also looking at Emerald Beach. Do you know anything about it?
Also, we would like to book a day sail? Are there companys that take large groups. I've seen several that had a maximum of 6. There are 23 of us. As far as night life, can you recommend places that teenagers would like?
I appreciate your help.
Dylan, just out of curiousity since we're discussing accomodations, which hotel might that be.
dylan: Ref promoguy's question, I'm curious too. Any reason why such accomodation information shouldn't be posted up front rather than privately? Cheers!
Many of the kids participating in the "youth baseball tournament" stay downtown at the Holiday Inn. I can't think of anyplace on a beach that is particularly welcoming to large groups of kids traveling without their parents, except perhaps the three airport hotels. Most resorts don't want the complaints from other guests that usually accompany groups of drinking eighteen year olds traveling with chaperones. I too think Bolongo may be the best bet. The reviews may not be as glowing as one would like but the clientele limits the options.
STT,
HOW ARE YOU?!?!?
Nah, no reason really, the hotel is the Island Beachcomber Resort, next door to Emerald BEach Best Western. The general manager's name is Sandra Seville, they have ample rooms for larger groups, it's clean, pretty quiet after 10 or so, and she gives youth groups great package deals.
08 Sponsor, call 340-774-5250, punch "O", get the operator and ask for Sandra. Tell her that Dylan gave you the number and told you to call her.
Hey Dylan,
Thankyou, I will definitely check into it. I appreciate your help.
08Sponsor,
Always a pleasure to try and help. Sandra and I are very close, she's from Memphis and I'm from Nashville soooooooo.........
I see LOTS AND LOTS of youth groups there, and they always go away smiling.
Best of luck to y'all................................
I think you probably have the viable resort options before you given budget and clientele options. Something else to keep in mind is food. Feeding a large group will not be inexpensive or necessarily easy. Allot of restaurants are small and busy and there aren't allot of affordable choices. Something to keep in mind while planing this trip. Good luck.

The Island Beachcomber is one of the three airport hotels. You will need to drive everyone everywhere and through the most congested part of the island (downtown) as there isn't much for tourists at that end of the island.
I would call Paradise Properties at Crystal Cove. Sapphire beach is the best beach on the island.

With all due deference to various posters' opinions, I nonetheless think that Bolongo will fit the bill in all respects! Cheers!
Just do yourself a favor and check ALL THE PRICES at all the recommended resorts before you make a decision. The driving shouldn't be a problem since you stated you're gonna rent vans, but I would just encourage you to seriously check all the prices.
Sapphire Beach should be looked into. We saw alot of kids about this age playing volleyball, in the pools, snorkeling and having a great time. Good location to Red Hook if you need a trip over to St. John.
