Senior citizens will be visiting St.Thomas first week in Oct. and will be staying at the Sapphire Beach Resort. Can anyone suggest some places to go, things to see, some restaurants (not too expensive). I know the islands are known for their beaches, but that's ok but we don't want to spend the entire week sitting in the sand (although I like girlwatching as much as the next person).Speaking of beaches, are all of the beaches crowded? I'd like to be able to stretch out without hitting the person next to me. Everyone says that we must go to St.John, so I guess that'll take up 1 day. It's rather difficult to plan a week because we aren't into snorkling, golf or tennis, so what else is there? Is there a grocery store near the resort? Since we have a full kitchen, I guess we'll be cooking sometimes. Any help, suggestions you can pass on will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Ron

Ron- there are several grocery stores within the general area of Sapphire. The largest are Plaza Extra, which is in the Tutu Park Mall Shopping Center and Pueblo, which is in Tutu Shopping Center. These two are within 5 minutes of each other and 10 minutes from Sapphire- driving that is. There are numerous small grocery stores on the east end where Sapphire is located. As far as things to do that don't include golf, tennis or snorkeling- 1. St. John (day trip) 2. Shopping (Charlotte Amalie or Havensight) try to do this on a day when there aren't to many cruise ships in- it gets a little crazy in town when ships are in- check the Daily News for the Cruise ship schedules- plan around that- also try to get there early- it gets pretty hot around noon- especially in town- but you can always stop in at one of the many small bar/restaurants and people watch and have a cold drink- till the noon heat passes 🙂 3. Island Tour- Mountain Top, Drakes Seat, Botanical Gardens, Coral World, Magens Bay 4. Picnic/Beach Day (there should be at least 2 of these- beaches are some of the Virgin Islands most beautiful assets)- less crowded beaches- Secret Harbor is nice, I would suggest Magens Bay- however either go in the morning around 8-8.30 before the cruise ship tours get there, OR around 5pm which is lovely- Magens in the afternoon is wonderful- not many people, just those that are exercising or relaxing, makes for a nice stroll down the shore. 5. Have a great time !!!
