My husband and I are leaving on the 10 th of September (7 more days!!!)
for Secret Harbour Beach Resort. We reserved a one bedroom beachfront suite for the week.

I have heard many positive reviews on the resort which is why I chose it, but I also read a few horror stories as well which made me somewhat nervous.

Does anyone know anything about this resort firsthand?

Thank you.

Yes, I know if it first hand. It is just across the bay from where I live, here on St.Thomas. I have friends that swear by it and always stay here, coming 3 and 4 times a year. The rooms are huge and should meet all your needs. The beach is one of the nicest, in my opinion of those here on STT because it has great palm and seagrape trees, for shaded areas on the beach if you choose, the water is calm because the flow of current across the bay goes away from the hotels beach. Snorkeling is great - I can tell you pretty much which fish to look for in what area. Blue Moon Cafe is good, service is excellent if you give some friendliness back to the staff, the food will satisfy. I would e-mail you a great photo I have of the Resort, as it appears across the bay from me, but alas, the image is locked up on my old computer!!! Come see for yourselves.........you've made an excellent choice.

I heard that the bay was good for viewing sea turtles, any specific areas to look?

I have seen one, only once. He/she was feeding, and coming up for air, about 20 feet to the right of the float platform. Not aware of larger numbers of them being there.

Hi,

I was there a couple of weeks ago and there was a turtle seen in the same area as IslandPaul mentions. Off to the right of the swim deck going over towards the area where the boats are anchored. In the past few years we have also seen rays, octopus and an incredible variety of fish right off the beach at SH.

Angela: I have read negative reviews and feel that it has to do with expectations. Secret Harbour is not a hotel, it is a condominium complex. The units are individually owned and placed into a centralized hotel management system. Each unit will be a little bit different depending on how someone has decorated or remodeled. There is no room service, no spa. It is more along the lines of self-catering. There is a restaurant on the property, but it is not owned by the condo associations (there are two in the complex.) There are also permanent residents sprinkled around, so it has a more residential feel in many ways. If you are expecting a 24 hour party, Ritz type service or other "resort" amenities, you may be disappointed. If you want a quiet place to enjoy some peace and serenity, you may be pleased.

I think EE is right about the expectation thing...I also attribute some of the bad reviews to some people expecting it to be like the mainland U.S., and we just aren't. That is why people come here, to get away from 'there', wherever 'there' may be. Of COURSE it's going to be 'different'. But some people expect it to be the same, and then they give bad reviews, when, in actuality, SH is a fantastic place. JMHO

We are just looking for a quiet and simple vacation, we are not looking for anything too fancy. We probably won't be in the room all too often anyway because we really want to see the island and do as much possible while we are there.

Thank you for your relpy, I appreciate the help.

Hmm, interestingly I saw one while snorkeling this morning, a smallish green turtle with a gouge in the side of his shell. Followed him around for 10 min or so while he poked around looking under rocks and such. Look for them in areas with turtle grass.

I'm so excited, only three more days left!!! I can not wait to leave, I am just praying that the weather will be beautiful. These tropical storms I keep hearing them talk about on the news are making me a little nervous.

we were at SH in june and loved the place. if you are looking for a low key layed back resort with great snorkling, you've picked the right place. the employees at both the resort and at blue moon are great, gave us good information and were very nice.

the turtle we saw was leaving the platform area and heading out away from shore to the left (of the Platform) followed it for about 15 minutes before it got way out there.

Have fun, we will go back someday!

I just stayed at Secret Harbor after doing business in ST. Thomas for a day. I can only say that it is very out dated and needs a "face lift" I usually stay in St. John, so I am comparing it to that. It is very quiet right now, so enjoy!
