What's the deal with the Scooter rental on the Island? In my mind it sounds like a perfectly reasonable thing to do, but from what I've heard from people who've visited, it's not done all that often. Would renting a scooter for a week be a practical consideration for two people to do, or should we just stick with the car. Either way, where can I get the best deals for scooter/car rentals?
Thanks!
Stay away from scooters. The roads are steep, winding, and can be generally treacherous.....often you'll ride along a hillside without much of a guard rail, if at all. I have gone up hills so steeo that I cannot see the road where I am cresting because the incline is so steep. There is a road on STJ that is especially notorious....I think it's called Jacob's Ladder......UGH!!! You need a good set of brakes, a good transmission and nerves of steel.....and a painkiller once you arrive!
Hello Andy,
Which Island; so folks can make car rental agency suggestions.
For scooter rentals;
On St. Thomas try Tropical Scooter 340-714-7408
On St. John try Scooters in Paradise 340-693-7368
I don't know of any on St. Croix.

Roads on both STT & STJ are steep, winding, sometimes poorly maintained. Traffic is not scooter-friendly. Many people feel it would be suicidal to ride a scooter there. If you do wish to rent a scooter, there are rentals available. They cost about the same as a 4WD, which is probably your best transportation choice.
Economically, your better off with a car versus a scooter.
