A group of 8 will be traveling via cruise ship to St. Thomas. We will arrive on June 29 and would like to rent scooters. I can not find anything on line as to where to rent. Are they available? If so, where would be a location near the cruise docks and how do I get in touch with them?

Hello Patricia,

Yes you can rent scooters close to the cruise ship dock. Try Tropical Scooter 340-714-7408

They are not the ideal form of transportation though considering St. Thomas is a hilly island. The scooters are about $55 dollars each a day about the same price as a rental car. You might look into maybe two jeeps if you wanted to really explore the islands. Which ever you choose - Have a great time.

Patricia,

I am in full agreement with the "Islander". Whatever the price is, I honestly don't think you will enjoy your journey around St. Thomas on a scooter. To say St. Thomas is "hilly" is an understatement. You may want to consider to rent a jeep, or car, and enjoy the sights and sounds that only this island can offer.

Remember, don't just "think left", "live left". Put a "sticky" right on your dashboard reminding you to think and drive left. Most importantly, when pulling out into the road, look right first! Take your time and pay attention. We want you to come back and enjoy this beautiful island again and again!

My husband and I stayed on St. Croix. He wanted to rent a car but I told him no it was not necessary. First off, we go to Vegas every couple months and never rent. The taxis are so convienent. Just to clear things up on that, IIIIIFFFFFFFFF you ask first, the taxi driver will give the rate up front. Makkkkkeeeee sure you say for two people or 3 or 4, after he/she quotes. Not once did the rate go up for two people. I was even able to talk one of the drivers down in price.
Its easy enough and they expect it and will give the info when asked. Second, The rates for two people in a taxi around StX were no worse (probably cheaper!) than traveling around Vegas, where the cabs are metered and you can watch the meter add a dollar or two waiting for the red lights.
Third, After the fifth fender bender, with a crying tourist sitting on the side of the road, Mark turned to me and said: "Thank God we didn't rent a car.... It would have been nice but WOW. This will take some getting used to. Eve, we're buying a clunker when we move...."
My opinion, Scooters would be a death defying stunt, you could seriously get hurt. A 4x4 taking out a scooter on the wrong side of the road will not be pretty for your vacation. I would suggest finding a taxi van and bargaining the price and using that. The taxi drivers also act as tour guides and answer questions, which makes paying easier when you know your getting a tour guide in the price.

Hello James,

Scooters are around $55 a day, about the same as a small car. Contact them and find out if they do long term rentals
