Hello,
My fiance and I are visiting St. Thomas for 6 nights in October and have narrowed our choices for lodging to Sapphire Beach Resort, Bolongo Bay, and Secret Harbor. This is our first visit to the USVI.

Does anybody have any comments to offer on their preference among these three resorts? Specific points of interest include convenient location, activities, crowds, beach & pool quality, and staff. We appreciate any opinions you are able to offer.

Thank you.

I would say Sapphire if you are looking for nicer and more activites. Bolongo is owned by a family and they are having some challeneges keeping up the amenities. Although Iggies is a GREAT restaraunt next door on the Bolongo property, but I would say Sapphire if price isn't an issue. They have more to do and there are locals and tourists at Sapphire.

Bill:

I'm partial to Point Pleasant Resort. It's on the East End near Sapphire Beach. Visit their website, www.pointpleasantresort.com

Request a top of the hill unit........the view is incredible.

If you want a secret hideaway great resort without a great deal of hustle and bustle, but a great great beach and other amenities that can't be beat. For my money the rooms here looking out on the beach at sunset, or a first floor room that has a terrace and you walk right out onto the beach............right around the corner from Red Hook where you have groceries, duffys, resturants and the ferry to St.John.

Hi. We stayed at Sapphire Beach last year and really liked it. They have rooms with brick terraces that you can walk right out onto the beach from, (I think you have to ask for one of those rooms...beach front), a beautiful pool and beach, water sports and on Sundays all the locals meet there to party and dance and that's a hoot!! On the down side the restaurant is terrible, both food and service, and there is never anyone at the information booth to help with tours, etc.

We went to the beach restaurant at Secret Harbour one night for dinner. It was rather expensive, but beautiful. Much more quiet. I would say for a honeymoon it would be very romantic. Don't know much about the rooms. It looked really nice and I would try it next time.

I don't know anything about Bolongo except they are all inclusive if you don't plan on leaving the resort that might be an option. Oh, one other thing, if you leave ANYTHING out on the counter you will find tiny bugs crawling all over the counters the next morning. Oh, and the housekeeping at Sapphire left much to be desired. I had to keep borrowing a broom to get the sand off of our floor....it's pretty gross to sleep in a bed with sand in it!!! But we did have a great time. Went jetskiing all the way to St. John.

Have a great trip.

Theresa: I am ROFL about the sand! I'll bet it wasn't the housekeeping department, but the vacationers who brought it in on their shoes! 😉 When you live around sand, you learn to take off your shoes, wipe off your feet before you go indoors, because you are right- then it is everywhere!!!

East Ender:

We DID take our shoes and sandals off outside, but sand doesn't jump off your feet because you took your sandals off!! We were sand level beach front. Sometimes people walk barefoot on the beach. That's kind of what people do on vacation. They did have little water basins at both doors to dip your feet in before you went inside, but it just didn't do the trick. What I was trying to say is that if the housekeeping had vacuumed it, it wouldn't have been a problem. I never saw a vaccuum the entire week I was there. But who knows, maybe what we needed was MORE time there to relax so we wouldn't care about the sand!

Hi Bill:

I just got back from a 11 stay in the islands. My daughter was married on 9/5 at Bolongo Bay. We had approximately 25 people staying at the hotel. The people was very friendly. The rooms were very clean. Getting a taxi to anywhere was very easy.

There are lots of nice restaurants, bars and lot of shops. I recommend Duffy's Love Shack and also the Caribben Saloon.

Hope you have a great time in the islands.
