Any word on what's going on at Sapphire? Last I heard on these boards was that the bar & restaurants were all closed and there wasn't much going on there. Anybody heard anything on this?

Yes, the restaurants on the beach are closed. Grapevine Grille on the hill is open for lunch and dinner. I was over there last week and things seemed pretty slow.

Stayed at Sapphire Village (up the hill) from the resort, and despite the restaurant being closed at the beach, they still rented lounge chairs, there was a small souvenir shop and the water and beach were AWESOME. I wouldn't worry too much about food, just take a short drive into Red Hook, or grab the ferry to St. John. Plus there are myriad choices all over STT and STJ for food and beaches. You'll want to do both! Have fun!

We stopped in there last week before we headed home & it just seems so depressing to me there now. We did see some wear on the buildings, & not so many people on the beaches....which could be a good thing! The pools are still nice & the view is as awesome as we remembered it.

I would pick it to stay there again....but it sure would be nice if the resraurant's would open again!

Still no need for you to worry....I'm sure it still will be paradise for you!

Thanks for the input.... stayed at Crystal Cove 3 years ago and liked being able to walk to the bar next door, so sad that wont be an option. Is there anything that is in walking distance? Any input on the restaurant mentioned in earlier posting? We are renting a car, learned last trip how expensive it can get taking taxis everywhere and plan on doing a lot of exploring, but like having somewhere to go in walking distance as well.

The Grapevine Grill is open at Sapphire Village. The Village is on the hill behind the marina and is a short walk from Crystal Cove.
If you are interested in breakfast, there is a complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby at Sapphire for guests, and available to non guests for $5.
Attempts are being made to set up a food service on the beach for lunch and dinner.
You can't beat the beach, and I will be coming down to Sapphire again in January.

Even thought you can see Red Hook, and it's very close, I would never walk there because there are no sidewalks. It would be too dangerous.

Sitter, What is it that makes it so depressing to you? You say you would stay there again so I don't get it. I have been going to SBR for several years on a yearly basis and have not noted any significant changes, if any to the outside of the buildings. Have not been since the restaurant and pool bar closed but we never used the main restaurant and the pool bar/grill was great but not that big a deal seeing that your snacks and or cocktails are just steps away from the beach in your room. And for significantly less $ .Too many awesome restaurants around to frequent only one anyway, IMHO that is..
