Anybody have any information concerning the Saphire Beach Resort. I loved the beach, the proximity to red hook, and all the activities they offer. While I was enjoying the beach, I was speaking to a couple that was staying there. They stated that the restuarants were closed, and that the hotel was providing a shuttle into town so the guests could have a restuarant to eat at. I would love to book another trip and stay there, but I would like to stay somewhere with a restaurant on site. Does anybody have any update on what is going on with this resort. Thanks!!

Sapphire Beach Resort still has a restaurant on site. It's called Azure, but we didn't eat there. It's right by one of the pools.

The Sapphire Beach Resort - not to be confused with the Villas up on the hill and having a rough time of it right now.

Many islanders told us that they were on generators because the electric bill was not paid.

It's a beautiful place, and I really wish somebody would come in and take it over.

Thanks for the info...I did notice the place was alil run down. It seems if somebody did take it over and put some money into it. It could be a wonderful place to stay.

Sapphire is not all run down...seriously...the grounds are very nice, the beaches clean. I would rate the outside of the resort a 8-9...i just don't know what they look like inside. I wish I could of seen a couple that were on the beach. It's in a perfect location to red hook too.

We viewed 2 suites at Sapphire Beach in April 2004 when we were looking to buy. Both suites were very attractive. An associate of mine purchased a unit there in May 2005 and loves it.

The restaurants and bar are closed at this time. There is a dispute between the condo association and the restaurant over utilities and some other matters. The board of directors at Sapphire don't seem to be doing very much to find a solution to the problem.

Perhaps when the unit owners realize that they are not going to be getting their units rented very much they will pressure or replace the board.

Azure is not at Sapphire Beach it is at Sapphire Village which is up the hill from Sapphire. It too is scheduled to close. I think their lease is up around the end of June, but I am not 100% sure.

It makes me very sad to hear this. We stayed at Sapphire Beach Resort in August 2004, and absolutely loved it! In my opinion, the beach is one of the best, we had great views, I like that side of the island and proximity to Red Hook. The exterior of the resort at that time was well maintained.

The interior of our unit was in good repair and very clean. The decor was a little dated, but that does not bother me if it is clean.

I last visited just for a day in January 2005 while on a cruise and enjoyed the beach and views then.

I hope something is done to save this resort! It has too many things going for it to let it go.

I stayed at Sapphire Village in April overlooking the marina. It was wonderful. I feel in love with Sapphire Beach. To bad about the Sunday Beach party. The band was great. They played for hours on end it seemed.

This too shall pass. Yes, the restaurants at Sapphire are ALL closed right now and the Sunday Sapphire beach party is thus closed for now. This too shall pass...

And, no, it's not a rundown place at all!

I'm a little concerned. I have stayed at Sapphire the last two years and schedulede to arrive 6/21 for our third year. I dont mind that the restaurants are closed, however, I am concerned about the generator issue. We love being outside (oceanfront) and the breeze, however, we also enjoy the a/c when in the unit. Tell me this is not a concern. Thanks

It's not a concern and the complex is not running on generators.

We heard that generator story from at least 3 people who live on the island, but we also questioned it because with that size of a resort, we couldn't hear any generators.

I think the generator story must be an urban legend. There was a temporary problem at Sugar Bay several months ago. They do not use "city power" at all and had problems with their generator over a couple of days. But that is fine too.

I think this story came about when the restaurant, whose power had been shut off by the condo association, tried to operate with their own generators. There were two problems, the generators had to be run around the clock to keep the food refrigerated, and guests complained about the noise.
The board of heath tested the refrigeration and found it to be inadequate so the restaurants then closed completely.

We stayed at Sapphire Beach this past April and loved it. The unit we rented was recently remodeled and it was fantastic. We were in Building D on the first floor and the views were incredible. I would guess with the restaurants being closed that would be a problem but if they have provided an alternative it still would be worth it in my opinion. In April, there were several units in the process of remodeling. The deciding factor might be what type of activities you are looking for each day. We were simply wanting to be on the beach and relax which this fit the bill perfectly.

We just got back from spending a week in Tortola, followed by a week at Sapphire Village in STT. Of the 9 or 10 times we've been to STT, I don't ever recall so much sea grass at Sapphire Beach. It seemed to be everywhere from one end to the other. Swimmers had to pick their spots to find areas with no sea grass. For those who know Sapphire well, can someone clarify this for me? Is this typical and I'm just not recalling correctly, hearvier this time of year, no different than always, or some other explanation?

That's very strange, because we were there from 5/31 - 6/8 and saw no seagrass at all on Sapphire. There was a little bit in the water, but no big deal. None on the beach.

We were there last week. Nobody seemed confident about any solution to the restaurants but there seemed to be no problem with power on the units. the convenience store did have power and was trying to help out by providing sandwiches and continental breakfasts.

I am staying at The condos on the hill at Sapphire beach (Sapphire Village) from June 20 to June 27. After reading this discussion, I am a little worried and confused. Are the bars at the resort closed as well as the restaurants? Are the pools being maintained?

One other question....Can I go to other resorts and use their pools/bars without a problem?....If so, do any hotel pools have swim-up bars that are fun?

thankyou.
